sneak. I've never played as a theif, i've NEVER successfully pick-pocketed someone... never used a probe, but i pick locks all of the time... my question; how do i improve my Sneak skill??? can i simply sneak passed someone??? or do i HAVE to pick pocket? i would like to improve this skill as i think it would be a great thing to do...
also!>!>!> is there any buildings in morrowind (no expansions, and its on xbox) that have TONS of containers>>??? i found the one in balmore, Hlaalu Manor, but i've filled them all... I want to have a building where i can keep ALL of my ingredients... Thanks!
edit: even if i have to kill someone for it...

Your Sneak skill improves any time you are in close proximity to a NPC/creature, and the Sneak icon is onscreen. This includes friendlies, you can for example find a guard all alone in a room and practice sneaking around behind him.
I'm not sure if it still counts if they eventualy break your cover and detect you or if you have to voluntarily come out of sneak mode for it to count...but that should be easy to check.
You can of course also pay a trainer to improve the skill, which may be a good idea until you get it high enough to be useful.
I imagine pickpocketing gives Sneak points, but i've never done that, since i use sneak mostly for setting up sniping attacks.

Wow, that is weird, never happened to me. I wonder if you have any mods which alter leveling and could have delayed telling you about the levels.
I've noticed that you need about 40 sneak to start gaining it at a decent rate by sneaking around NPCs whenever possible and about 70 before it becomes really useful ie allowing you to pickpocket, steal things really close to a NPC and do sneak attacks, once sneak is useful you will level up quite quickly because you will be doing it more.

I don't remember pocket-picking working very well, actually.
Even at ridiculous levels of skill/stats, 99% of the time it would fail, he would get noticed, and so forth.
Not sure if there's a variable in the TES:CS that can fix that.

WELL IM ON XBOX SO IT ISNT ANY MODS ... oops, caps lock
i read somewhere that when you sneak close to an npc, it's constantly addibng to a counter and the counter levels you up when it reaches a certain level, but maybe the leveling part only detects that your sneaking, when you're actually moving..
