Any idiot could figure out to click the nodes in the hacking window
I dunno. Maybe not this time, but I've seen some pretty cringeworthy posts from "lolz, i just d/led teh warez SS2" newbies. Lots of people wanting to check out SS2 now, because of Bioshock.

With Bioshock imminent, we've been seeing an attack of the noobs lately haven't we. Downloading the warez version, not being able to figure out how to get SS2 to run, and not knowing how to do anything in the game (possibly because the warez version doesn't come with a manual, but far more likely because people have no patience these days).
...
Why am I being so nice to a warez kiddie . . .
I've got a serious question about downloading vs. purchasing SS2
(as an aside) I've got a "classics edition" version that was the last USA published version of SS2 that I picked up for $15 on the discount rack)
However, there is a lot of insistence that Noobs to the SS series purchase SS2 from Ebay or through the various few online stores that still carry it (wasn't there one in austraila?). But if the Intellectual Property is as fragmented as everybody says it is, where exactly does the money go other than the seller/distributor?

Downloading the game is illegal, this question isn't very difficult to answer.

JC on Ecstasy: You are confusing this forum rule for something that will be opened up to discussion if someone extremely intelligent and handsome comes by and provides the one convincing argument that the rest of the forumers have foolishly missed the last few years.

It goes to EA.
The IP for the System Shock games isn't half as scattered to the winds as the IP for the Thief games. EA doesn't have the very-nearly-battered-to-death-on-the-rocks-of-insolvency history that Eidos does... they never had to rearrange deckchairs, if that makes sense.
As a personal note, I'd be more than happy to find some way to make EA eat shit over the whole SS2 problem. I don't like them or their business philosophy / practices one bit, never have. They're the McDonald's of gaming.
More realistically, and speaking as a TTLG staff member, there's as much chance of getting to force poo down EA's corporate throat as there is of successfully defending the human rights record of the Khmer Rouge.
Or something.
Bottom line is that EA is, and remains, an aggressively active holder of the System Shock IP.

The money doesn't go to EA because these days the only copy you're going to find is probably resale.
Therefore, it goes to whoever on eBay is selling it to you for $14.50 + inflated shipping.
