I actually joined the starchat channel #Thief before I came to the Forums - dragged over to the channel by my long-time internet buddy, Malygris. :) And, after a few months hanging around there (perhaps it was only weeks ;) ), there was a monumental push for me to sign up to the Forums. :cheeky:
So, on that little urging, I did. And, have been here on and off ever since. :)
Much to my delight. I like to pop a post now and then, and insert as many happy thoughts and smilies as possible. After all, I have a reputation to uphold; sunshine and joy. Yes? ;)
Huggies and Kissies.

When I was about 11, having just got basic Internet access, the Thief demo was one of the first things I'd downloaded (having read a preview in a magazine months before) I searched for it on Yahoo, and The Circle (then Thief-DarkProject.com) was the first hit. I used the link there to get the demo. I wasn't much of a gamer, but I really enjoyed it, and bought the game as soon as I could.
Then a while later I had some problem with the game, and remembered T-DP.com. I found the answer, and I also found DromEd, which I took to enthusiastically (if somewhat unsuccessfully) and registered at the GameForum TTLG, under another nick, to ask questions in TEG. I think this was about late 1999, but I'm not sure. My first question was about how to make doors. I lurked there for about a year, asking questions and later on answering them also, before expanding to ThiefGen. From there I discovered Deus Ex, System Shock, Morrowind and other games.
When the big transition thingy happened, I changed my nick to Z (I was 12, gimme a break :p) In retrospect, I probably should have stayed with my old one, since it was original and did not have about a dozen movie characters and countless anime/comic references associated with it. Actually I just felt the last letter of the alphabet was in some way significant.

When I first started Thief I heard about FM's. I searched for Thief FMs in google, and Thief the Circle and TTLG came up, I went to both, lurked around TTLG for about 6 months then registered.

I was on the verge of starting a new thread, but found this one and decided to bump it back into existence. Plus, it was really interesting to read the posts from those I never got a chance to meet.
Anyway, I found ttlg while doing a Google search for problems I was having trying to run T2 on a newer machine (wouldn't install, then video card issues, followed by movies not working). Imagine the surprise in not only finding extremely detailed answers, but a whole community full of files, patches, whatza-whozits, and *gasp* FAN MISSIONS! Plus, some of the most interesting and eclectic individuals to ever post on a forum (you guys are wonderful, and complete asses at the same time--I love it!). :thumb:

Discovered the Thief trilogy after Thief 3 came out, came here looking for help getting Thief Gold running. Realized I could get SS2, which I'd never been able to play, running the same way.
Didn't register until August of that year when I was trying to puzzle out some of the stuff in SS2 that's harder to hear than most, such as anything Xerxes might say and the entire SHODAN reveal bit.

Fell in love with Looking Glass games way back when SS1 came out and one day ,many years later, after replaying SS1 for the umpteenth time and finally armed with an internet connection I decided to search for any Shock related sites. Found this place and lurked for a while before I signed up as "jizzlobber", which I didn't actually know the meaning of at the time. I was promptly Zylonbaned :thumb:

Strangely enough, it wasn't Thief that got me posting. It was the Arx demo. I posted about a few neat things I found while exploring, and generally tried to be a nice, useful person all around.
After that, I laid low for about a year, then started posting again during the big Thief 3 anticipation days.
And now, here I am, x years later. Contributing nothing useful and killing threads. :D

I looked up "friendly helpful folks" on the internet and there it was: A community like I'd never seen before. Then I went to TTLG.
