Same here, but it was TDP :) Can't remember exactly why I started searching Thief stuff, I guess I was looking for help with one of the missions or something. First I found the Circle and from there I stumbled my way to the forums.

Ishy was raving about T:DP like a man posessed, and how the TTLG forums (at Gameforum) were a source of community spirit, comedy gold, and had a larger percentile of women than most gaming forums.
Naturally I followed him in here and fell in love with Thief, but no doubt he rues the day. I saw some of the old "Parting Of A Broadhead" posts, and I swear I, more than he, will NEVER LIVE IT DOWN.

'tis Thievery's fault. I came for the TUT forums, I stayed for the rest when they became independent. :)

I was having trouble getting the system shock2 multiplayer working and did a search which took me to sshock2.com.
After reading through the website created by people who may have loved the game more than I ever did, i found the links to ttlg mentioned more than once and thought I'd have a look. The first place i went to was the shock forum and there I stayed lurking for nearly a year. (when I think of this era names like caprice and jedikorenchkin spring to mind oh and that ARmaster guy who always seemed to have an opinion on everything:))
(first time I played through thief DP until bonehoard at which point I didnt come back to the game.) After a little while I got back into thief pushed forward by the enthusiasm of the people in the thief forums and fully enjoyed the whole game except for the first cathredal level, my monitor was really dark back then and I couldnt see the monster spiders but could hear them <- not usually bothered by spiders but this made me leave the game for about a month or more before i would go back to play it.
(oh and btw i mispelled my name when registering so I've forever become known as Dmage instead of damage)
So thanks to the guys at sshock2.com you provided some much needed help and pointed the way to an online home where everybody knows your name :sly:

In 2000 I was wasting my time in the army, bored. There was a computer, there was a internet connection. I had a copy of TDP, so I decided to check out some related stuff and see if I could find some of those FMs that someone had told me about. I found that, and much more. :D
(You may notice that I didn't actually sign up "immediately"...)

It's entirely the fault of one Tumbleweed that I'm here. Blame him. I could have had a social life now if it wasn't for this. This is the fourth time I've logged on today. Somebody's going to pay.
Actually that's not quite true. It's his fault I got on #thief. I kind of, naturally crept here. Twas inevitable really.

I remember playing the Thief demo with my nephew.
I think I had questions about SS2 or summat. Saw a write-up on SS2 and bought it in 2000 and the rest is all a crack-filled haze. :cheeky:

Wow, I've been here for over 4 years, that's pretty cool. I lurked for a long time before starting to post, just to get a feel for the place and not to get thwacked to hard by Sailoreagle's mallet. The first System Shock really got me interested in Looking Glass, and when I read about Thief in PC Gamer, I was like "Ohmigod this game looks so cool and honey look it's made by the same people who did System Shock which is like the best game evar and I can't wait til this comes out" at which point my wife just looked at me really funny for a couple of minutes.
After buying Thief on the day that it came out (without even playing any demo, no less) I was in love. I think I then did a search on webcrawler for Thief and stumble upon this site, IIRC. Since then, I've always had a soft spot for TTLG (not to mention the other soft spot on my skull from the mallet of thwacking).
