what makes this so different?
ooooh yeah, i forgot - making fun of muslims in this present-world is a huuuuge no-no isnt it. because they're um....different...in their...erm...religion...ah...oh wait a second, isnt there a word for that argument?
oh yeah...STUPID.
yeesh. incidentally i havent slept for nearly 30 hours...yay!

Possibly you should read the thread, or something.
Your issues are addressed.

It's not just that the image of Mohammed is prohibited Paz. In fact I think few Muslims are stupid enough to think they can tell non-Muslims that they have to stick to the rules of Islam. Like I said - they can't stop you eating bacon.
This is part of the problem, all these things are confusing the main issue which is: the pictures are making fun of several aspects of Islam and these people just don't get the jokes and so are interpreting them as plain offensive. Poor as you might consider the jokes, they are are intended to make comment on a range of issues and that is all.
The lolling thing is one of the pics is of a sweating cartoonist being surrounded by offended fanatics who are out for blood based on some provokative sketch he has done. I've found this cartoonist and he is now dealing with all my financial investments.

Images of Mohammed are a no-no. Whether this is for all of Islam or only the hardcore, I don't know.
No, there are some sects which do depict Mohammed with pictures, small sculptures etc.
Of course, images of Jesus/God etc are technically a no-no for Christians and Jews too, if you keep to the texts.

And i for one haven't heard any complaints about, for example, movies like Dogma that make fun of Christian religion. Buddy Christ anyone?
Dogma makes fun of Christian religion? Does it heck as like.
Anyway, with all the gifted artists on TTLG, I'm more than a little disappointed that we haven't had any Mohammed cartoons of our own.

...I tried inventing a Mohammed emoticon, but couldn't get the turban right.

You mean like in Africa (e.g. Nigeria)?
(
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/1885052.stm) BBC:
Quote:
In an interview with the BBC, Governor Ahmed Sani of Zamfara said no non-Muslim had the right to determine Sharia's legitimacy.
Islam is a faith, a belief - it is only those who believe in that faith that will either determine something is wrong or something is right
Ahmed Sani
He said that the punishments - which included stoning, amputation and flogging - were legal under the constitution and his administration had no plans to change its justice system.
Federal Justice Minister Kanu Agabi said in a letter to northern states that Muslims should not be subjected to more severe punishments than other Nigerians.
The letter comes as Nigeria is gripped by the trial of a woman, Safiya Husseini, convicted of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning by an Islamic court. She is due to hear the outcome of her appeal next week.
I mentioned (
Jesus preventing the stoning of a woman) Jesus preventing the stoning of a woman in our PM session (looks like you were a popular boy with Monkeysee and myself yesterday lol).
Having said that, we do try and force our Christian influenced thinking upon the Muslims in the form of so-called "human rights" - and I think we are right to do so (does that spoil the relativism party?). For example the Qu'ran (Koran) says that husbands can beat their wives ((
http://www.hti.umich.edu/cgi/k/koran/koran-idx?type=DIV0&byte=114839) 4:34) but IMO we should go into Muslim countries and re-write their laws/constitution to prevent this.

You could float a cartoon of Pat Robertson tossing a crucifix with a fuse on it at Hugo Chavez. See if any embassies get stormed.
Not really a fair comparison though. Pat isn't living in an occupied country. As extreme as the reaction is you have to remember that to many in the Middle East, the coalition forces are not viewed as liberators but as the latest army of the Crusades. A sacrilegious cartoon is going to be seen as part of that war against the faith.
Hell, (Christian) blasphemy laws were still enforced in almost all western democracies until not so long ago. They are probably still on the books in many countries. We don't have that much of a lead as far the need to ‘lighten up' goes.
Convict: I can't get the Qu'ran link to work.
Convict on 4/2/2006 at 01:21
The link seems to work for me - you just have to scroll down to verse 34.
Alternatively Google for a translation of the Koran.

That Nigerian issue is occuring in Muslim majority areas where they run things that way on a local level. Europe doesn't run like that, anywhere, - this is irrelevant so stop posting your stupid crap here. You know full well I'm talking about minority populations and/or Islamic states presuming to tell non-Islamic states how to run themselves based on religious beliefs. It may be blasphemy or illegal to paint a picture of Mohammed/drink alcohol in Saudi but here I can do it every day and no-one can tell me otherswise.

Yeah, and in many Christian wedding vows women have to "honour and obey" but the men don't.
Also the Uni of Michigan called - they want their gimp back. They said you had it on their site and UoM site is G_d's own truth confirm/deny?
In other words - there are certain documents I wouldn't trust on the web. Anything on a wiki, anything legal and anything relgious unless they are published by an official company/body/government site. UoM Koran translation/interpretation doesn't cut it I'm afriad. Muslim Council of GB and I'm listening again.
