It is true that our laws are based loosely on the Bible (OT and NT) but to my knowledge there is no Christian equivalent of Sharia law...
Hence my challenge for you to identify what Christian law would be like.
Are you serious? This is the last time I'm replying to you in this thread because I suspect trolling.
UK law (and probably Aussie law) is only loosely based on Biblical law, but even that is arguable since it's all pretty pragmatic and humanitarian anyway.
Strict Christian law would mean the death sentence for many "crimes", some of which are not even crimes atm (sex before marriage etc). Strict adherance to The 10 Commandments alone would cause many changes - paintings/sculptures of Jesus and G_d would be banned, Sabbath would be on a Saturday, there'd be punishments for uttering G_d's name uneccesarily, half of the UK would be imprisoned for not honouring their parents, etc, etc. Some of them we already stick to, but like I said - it's practical for a functional society. There would be so much that would change. So much.
PM me for anything more else a fag-up is going to occur.

Just because I'm willing to defend Muslims from persecution on these boards when no other fucker is, that automatically would make me a likely apologist for any bigotry and violence committed by Muslims around the world?
While your calling is certainly noble I'm not aware of anyone on these boards actively persecuting muslims. I think you're fighting the wrong fight here, buddy.

Lemme play devil's advocate here for a minute...

There's just no excuse for this. It's ignorance and it's zealotry and it's bigotry. And the cartoons aren't even very good.
Funny that. The "demonstators" seem to think the cartoons are ignorant, zealous and bigoted.

It's pics of Mohammed. I'd have more tolerance if they were getting wound up about bomb jokes, but this seems to be a more complex issue than that.
There's no complexity to it at all. The cartoon is portraying
the premier figure of the Islamic faith in a negative, albeit lighthearted way. They consider it an insult to not just the religion, but to the greatest man to ever live, and thus, their very way of life.
It's no different from calling a black man by TEH-N-WORD-LOL. Or slapping a Filipino. Or someone throwing a bag of flaming dog shit in your breakfast. It's a personal insult of the 3rd order and one that, especially in Islamic culture, you don't just let go.

Taken to PM on the law issue SE.
I do not understand the logic in this:
Quote:
"However moderate one is, there can be no compromise on the person of the prophet. The prophet is held above everything in the universe - over one's own person, family, parents, the whole world. It is less offensive to condemn and vilify God."
(
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,18034163%255E601,00.html) The Australian.
They say that images of Mohammed the 'prophet' are banned to prevent idolatry. Idolatry as defined by Wikipedia (which has a good definition IMO, correct me if there is a better one) as "the worship of an image, idea or object, as opposed to the worship of a supreme being". Mohammed was not God (Allah) but just a messenger of Allah (the Supreme being).
So to my mind it doesn't make sense to imply that Mohammed is higher than God since it is worse to make an image of a mortal man than of God.

Is Islam so weak that it can't take a couple of rubbish cartoons without LEAPING TO MOHAMMED'S DEFENCE!!!!!?

Your "Even StD" line. He may be, err, be him, but he's not a total idiot nor a (totally)blind defender of Islam/Muslims. That you should say "Even StD" suggests that you had presumed, incorrectly, that his opinion would be in favour of the demonstrations. To recycle - I think that even StD would not be so foolish, and I thought so before he posted to confirm.
"the worship of an image, idea or object, as opposed to the worship of a supreme being" Sounds like some idolatry of Mohammed going on even sans images to me.

Maybe. They're at least in poor taste. But they're also JUST CARTOONS. Did you miss the part where people were so angry at these cartoons they stormed the embassy and threatened to begin executing people? There's no defense for that.

That's not messing up. I said exactly what I meant and I still mean it.

I'll give you the first one, but I'd say even that's stretching it considering its just a picture someone drew and there's no actual personal animosity toward any specific living person.
While we're on the subject, is there any place other than Switzerland (briefly around the reformation) that actually instituted serious Christian law?
