It's my belief that foreign policy and domestic issues (and hence policy) are intertwined.
Scenario:
Israel and it's neighbouring Muslims go to war. The war becomes protracted and people start getting pissy about their brethren getting killed (on either side).
The UK has people from both 'sides' in it.
Jews and Muslims start protesting on the streets (sort of like (
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=31701) this) and bad stuff happens.
---------------------------------------------
Plan of Action
Quote:
If you incorporate certain human rights into their constitution then you limit the power of Hamas to establish fundamentalist Islam. What needs to be done is ban polygamy, enshrine and enforce the right to free dress code. In the laws (I don't know that this can be put into a constitution? Can it?) they need to make sure Muslim husbands cannot "beat" their wives (Qur'an 4:34). There are many other liberal ideas that could be imposed as well.
These rules would undermine the power of an Islamic theocracy that Hamas might seek to establish and, with help from the West, could liberalise Arabic states.
EDIT: BR796164 I feel that there are other vitally important pieces of information that short guide did not include. For example my understanding of Islam and their culture is that the Qu'ran must never touch the floor because it is (considered) 'holy'. Also, while the guide mentions in passing that women in public are seen in the presence of a male relative, I think that women can go in public with non-relatives but there would have to be 2 males and 1 female or 2 females and 1 male (in order to ensure there is no impropriety). This I think means that female 'Westerners' should obey this custom otherwise they 1) may become a target and 2) will not get any respect.

Not all of Israel's neighbours are Muslims.
Don't make the mistake of confusing this territorial dispute between Israel and Palestine with ethnic/religious tension.

Yes I understand that and I know that not all of Israel's inhabitants are Jewish too. Nonetheless religion becomes a key issue IMO. I hope you see how happenings in the Middle East will affect you (even if Israel wasn't there it could be 2 other groups fighting and the result spills over into your country).

We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives. And remember, my friends, future events such as these will affect you in the future.

"It behooves us to be interested in the future because that is where we will spend the rest of our lives." - wasn't that Santayana?
On the other hand I understand entirely SDs desire to leave the region of religious retardism to fend for itself. Just "no thanks, we got our own". They could retrogress into the age of miracles and jews on a stick. Eleven virgins and a mule for all. Everybody is happy. No oil for greasy western money. They could concentrate entirely on the export of terrorism and with the money they get from that they could build a huge stockpile of stones to stone the world. Everybody must get stoned! Burka burka burka! Duck and cover them ankles missy! Nobody is a terrorist when everybody is! That crystal cathedral of molten nuclear glass can be built on the holy city and all the holey bodies beneath. Praise Allah! Ten mandatory times a day.
Just leave that poison place of poison minds. And fuck a god, any god, who makes us fight.
I have a feeling I will agree with them about the evils of alcohol tomorrow.

Yeah, you know, it's supposed to be very easy to understand and useful in an average day of an average soldier. Of course that in comparison with the "Ultimate Encyclopaedia of Arabic Society and Islam" it looks like a drawing book for kids. But I guess that every average western person can learn some new tidbits from it.
