People who make cartoons are most definitely civilizationally superior to people that burn embassies and attack people.
You really know how to simplify the world. I almost envy you.

And I pity you.

That's because you like to feel civilizationally superior.

Are people researching nuclear power civilizationally superior to people torturing prisoners?

at this moment in time, i think its safe to say that the neds of glasgow are taking the right attitude to all this.
ie: they dont know what the fuck is going on, so just go about their usual business (involving hooch and tracksuits).

I've seen in this thread (and in its (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103848) utterly unnecessary cousin) attempts to trivialize what is going on right now as little more than the act of a small pocket of extremists. Surely the Muslim world is no more violent than the Western one, eh, and anyone suggesting otherwise is clearly "Islamaphobic," right?
What utterly preposterous wishful thinking. While I do think this clearly isn't standard operating procedure for most Muslims, there is something far larger and more widespread being tapped into here. The Muslim world (broadly speaking) is simply considerably more fanatic about their beliefs than the Western world. This isn't really debatable.
I'm not saying Islam is the source of this fanaticism as opposed to cultural and political situations. I'm not saying all Muslims are fanatics, or even many Muslims for that matter. I'm not saying the Muslim world has a monopoly on fanaticism. I'm also not saying that Western reporting of this debacle has been fair and even and given the peaceful Muslims their due.
But I am saying that the Muslim world on average charts a few notches higher on the religious fervor chart than the West. To pin current events on a particularly vocal minority is to miss the bigger picture entirely.
