I know this ever-enlarging retarded wave of indignant clusterfuck shouldn't have me laughing, but GBM and Wyclef are knocking me dead.
Also: I don't want to make the mistake of assuming the actions of a violent minority speak for an entire religion (sup fragony) but this doesn't really seem like a minority at this point, does it?

Wow...That's way too much...

I sure as fuck hope this thing blows over before people start dying. A major falling out between Europe and the muslim world would severely hurt both.
I'm not necessarily sure that this is a bad thing in terms of global politics. I was thinking that if Iran is trying to get support from Europe (and perhaps other Muslim countries) in the long term, then this huge dispute will surely damage any such possible relationships. I think that this is a good thing in terms of retarding Iran (and other similars) from aquiring nuclear weapons etc and maybe this will actually prevent a nuclear war.
Anyway, one day the poms will admit I was right.

Regarding Paul, I've never felt his writings belonged in the Bible. I'm not necessarily saying they should be dismissed, but I think they belong in a seperate book or compilation. I thought he helped make Christianity a lot more inclusive, but I guess I haven't studied the Bible enough to see what made him such an awful guy. I don't think you can equivocate between the biclical and Koran verses on marriage. The Bible one gives general advice for a good relationship (which includes giving the husband an obligation to serve his wife), but it doesn't say anything about beating.
The reason Paul's letters are included in the Bible is because, as Paul writes to the Galatians, "Paul, an apostle - sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead (ie spiritual death)" (Galatians 1:1). I'm not sure why AM and others don't like Paul, I could understand them not liking Saul perhaps ;).

I seriously doubt anything will keep Iran from developing nukes. Polarization will only make them more determined. Although I should qualify that they already understand how polarized the situation is whereas we still hold the belief that exposure to western values will mitigate the more extreme elements.
There are moderates however I believe the reason moderates coddle the extremists is that they feel it is we who will change and that thier religion, which has been pointed out is the basis for thier law and society, will prevail over our decadent freedoms. They feel safer among thier own hardline nuts than the loose irreverent chaos of democracy.
Exactly why a womans naked thigh is worse than stoning is beyond me, as is much of thier religion and ours. I think it has something to do with how a caged animal will return to the security of the cage rather than face the scary unknown.
I know. Captain obvious to the rescue. I just don't know what to say when cartoons cause violence. The Teletubbies I could understand.

While I have said that we should go in and install liberal values in their constitutions, I also think that we should retard Iran's nuclear ambitions for as long as possible. Who knows, maybe we will develop a counter to nukes by the time Iran gets them.
Swiss Mercenary on 5/2/2006 at 06:00
Iran will get their nuke, like it or not. Doesn't mean that the UN shouldn't make a big freaking deal out of it, but they'll get their nuke.
The technology is not out of their reach. It's simply a matter of ten, fifteen years of hard work.
As for Convict's liberal values, are you going to be happy if some 'more' liberal country then Aus decides to invade, and instill some much-needed 'liberal' values into your culture? Or are you already 'liberal enough', and hence exempt?
Convict on 5/2/2006 at 06:21
Oh, I only want to liberalise the bad countries Swiss. ;) Why do you think that neo-conservatives want to spread liberalism in the Middle East?

In South Africa, a court banned Sunday newspapers from reprinting the cartoons.

That court just removed freedom of the press IMO.

A senior Islamic cleric has called on Australia's media not to publish the cartoons which have sparked riots across the Muslim world.
Sheik Fehmi El-Imam, the general secretary of the Board of Imams of Victoria, warned reprinting the cartoons here could "disturb people who can do things that we don't want them to do"...
Sheik El-Imam said his call to Australia's media not to follow those companies was an "advisory gesture" in the hope the nation's "atmosphere of peace" would not be broken.
The Mosque sheik, considered a moderate voice amongst Australia's Muslim clerics, is based at the Preston Mosque in Melbourne's north.
So we shouldn't say things which might offend them? And he is a moderate??

neo-conservatives
Neo-cons . The only thing they're worried about is building the influence of their corporate pals in those aformentioned countries. Oh, right, and unconditional support for Israel. At least they are applying some common sense to the second part. I think. And what's your idea of 'bad', anyways?
Indeed.

From what he's said, my impression is that: "We really ask you to please not do it, because people are going to riot."
I don't see what's not moderate about it. Maybe if he had some    emoticons, and a DO IT AND DIE, now...

I wonder why the Washington Times has reprinted them here.

And the Chilean & Swedish embassies. Those two were located in the same building as the Danish embassy.
