Marxism can be made to blend in with religion if you are trying to draw support from religious people. In South America its called "liberation theology". I wasn't suggesting that islamic groups are necessarily inspired by Marxist ideology, regions in which they were active tended to have had pre-existing militant communist/socialist movements that served as examples for later movements and now have to appeal to islamic sympathies due to their rising popularity relative to leftism. Anyway, the point of my post was that the I.R.A was DIFFERENT from islamic groups in that it was national liberationist rather than catholic in focus. They just happened to draw on a catholic populace.
I'm probably off on the Marxist orientation of the I.R.A.
I recognize that non-rightists tend to be more fractured. That's because they're a bunch of idiots. :)

Gosh, what an arsehole.

The Northern Ireland conflict had suprisingly little to do with religion, regarding Cathlolics at least.
Your denomination simply identified you as either British or Irish. All this Marxism babble is kind of missing the point, being it was all about the hate, not so much about Ideology.
Comparing the IRA to Islamic fundmentalists is just plain wrong. The provos recruited people who were tired of living under an iron fist, whereas the Islamics used religion, twisted the words of the Q'uran to stir up euphoric fanatasism.

So the desire for freedom causes terrorism? Well shit, I want an apology from all freedom-loving leaders everywhere in their name then! Rarr, and stuff.

But you would have served yourself better if you had posted the actual post (as opposed to this commentary) first.
You really need to recognize that nobody take your internet referee act seriously. The reason I posted was to make a point about this thread, not the topic. Mission accomplished.

There are serious issues with the fact that British Muslims live pretty much in isolation within the country and perhaps you believe that this is not out of choice, but by and large British Muslims (as with many cultural or religious migrant groups) do not wish to be integrated into British society (whatever that is).
.
I wonder if you have stopped to consider the majority of Britain who live in all white communities. I have seen far more racism, intolerance and fanaticism from those living in all white non Muslim areas to those living in largely inner city multicultural areas.
I am probably the last white person ever to go through my primary school (in Oldham) I was the only white person in my year of sixty, after all white families (apart from mine) had moved to a new school opened across the road.
At the Indian restauraunt where I have a part time job, the owner wants her daughters to become established members of society, such as doctors or lawyers. SHE DOES NOT WANT THEM TO RUN A RESTAURAUNT. She thinks that by becoming respected members of the community her children will be INTEGRATED into British society.

Hindu?

Perhaps aguy, perhaps. But the fact in the UK is that the proportion of medical students that are of South Asian (i.e. not Far East Asian) ethnic origin, and Muslim, Hindu or Sikh, is far larger than the proportion within the population. Reasons? Who knows, but one is certainly drive.

No, the problem is slavery. If their great-grandfathers had been slaves then that would have deeply affected their collective psyche, and prevented them from succeeding in life.
But, since they are from a poverty stricken country, and not, say, born into opulance (comparative with similiar peoples in a foreign country), then they can really succeed, even though they to are in a deeply racist society.
Chimpy Chompy on 16/2/2006 at 18:45
If I read that right, you're saying poor blacks in america live in "opulance"?
