what happened in this thread? I almost CERTAINLY posted my previous response AFTER NightHawk, because it was a direct response. So why are they swapped round now?
Sorry, that's my fault. I have O.C.D. (obsessive compulsive disorder). Yeah, yeah, go ahead, everybody - make fun of me and laugh. Anyway, I'd been writing and re-writing that whole thing over and over again until I felt comfortable with it. And I had to delete it a few times because I cannot stand when it says at the bottom of a post that it had been edited. I had to make it look like I got it right the first time, and I've been obsessing over how to say the things i wanted to say.

But the imam at the heart of the row appeared to backtrack, saying Denmark was a tolerant country.
"As a Muslim I am heavily indebted to this country," Imam Abu Laban told worshippers at his Copenhagen mosque
From what I've heard, the Muslims in the West have a more peaceful and tolerant attitude toward us "infidels" than they do in the Middle East, where I think the Muslims who are the most outraged about the cartoons live.

One thing I don't understand is...you're an athiest, Stronts, why are you always the first on the defensive line when someone badmouths Islam?
I know a few people like this in person, actually. They paint Christianity with such a broad, negative brush, but as soon as a small to medium sized group of Muslims go fuckwit stupid they're not on their soapbox talking about the evils of religion, they're instead making excuses.
I just...I just...I can't wrap my head around it.

I don't want you or anyone to think that I've forgotten about David Koresh or Jim Jones. There are a lot of American rednecks who preach hate speech, stockpile up on assault weapons, are anti-semetic and call themselves Christians. I ain't down with that stuff, and it doesn't mean that every Christian is like them. You'll always have people who deviate from the mainstream of religions, but there are far too many angry Muslims to say that that's not the norm. Something's not right.

No, I'm an atheist spelling kru

I'll defend anyone who I believe is being hard done by. I have always had an inherent belief in fairness and justice. I spend a lot of time defending Islam because Muslims are (overwhelmingly) the most unfairly treated and marginalised grouping in today's society.

Ey wha? I hope you're not accusing me of doing this.

Who's making excuses for anyone? The riots are inexcusable. They are also the product of an infinitesimal proportion of Muslims.

Try representing and interpreting people's views correctly - then you might understand them better.

How many? How many "angry Muslims" are there?

Haha what. How can it possibly be the norm when it's an overwhelming minority?

I think the total muslim population of the world is estimated at between 1.2 and 1.6 billion.
Since those taking to the streets probably number thousands, those waving dodgy signs number hundreds and those with the desire and inclination to set fire to various embassies number .. what, tens?; it is fairly safe to suggest this was a minority action.
Which does not, of course, excuse those insane few. Who are about as clever as glue. Ah doobie doo doo.

Okay, I've said my piece and you've said yours.
Yes, and each time I say my piece, you don't refute a single argument I make. It's like you're saying "OK, you're right, but I still don't agree with you".

I'd like to know where you get your information about it being a minority from
Well, there are over a billion Muslims in the world. The people involved in the unrest over these cartoons is much less than a billion. Call it arithmetic.

The point I'm making is that double standards are wrong and anyone who sweeps them under the carpet is wrong.
And the point I'm making is that double standards are common throughout all of the world's religions, and singling out one of them for extra special criticism, and applying that criticism to all practitioners of that religion (regardless of their stance) is just a bit unfair.
[EDIT: please stop fucking around, deleting your posts and re-posting them after responses have been made, it's incredibly irritating. Plus deleting whole sections of your post that people have responded to is retarded]

The point I'm making is that double standards are wrong and anyone who sweeps them under the carpet is wrong and violence for the sake of any faith is wrong. But there are those who would dispute what "wrong" is.
