How does the sleeping work in-game? The screen goes black for a few moments?

You walk to neutral NPC and in the dialog there is a line - something like "i would like to sleep bla bla bla. Could you watch me [1h...7h]". You have dreams while you sleep (made by game developers). But they are quite short :)
Enabled sleeping isn't best part of the mod at all, there are tons of real improvements. Adjusted characteristics of artifacts f.e. - now you really should think hard how to combine them in the best way possible with current armour, f.e. without heavy armour you shouldn't equip Soul as penalty of the artifact to the armour properties is now 25%, not 10% as it was earlier. Stealth works from 2:00 to about 5:00 - when sky becomes black, enemies' eyesight (if enemy doesn't use flashlight) worsens considerably. But I think a way too much, sometimes there is a glitch just like in T1/2 - they may actually bump you and still yell "common, where are you?". But at least now you can silently kill a group of human enemies if you will "work" at night. Also, now you can buy weapon upgrades and repair armour and weapon. Real names for weapons and improved weapon damage are also imlemented. And many more things, the game is definitely much better now.
The ONLY things that I didn't like about the mod so far are: starless, absolutely black sky from 2:00 to 5:00 (but I liked darkness it provides), weird pink fog in the morning, and underdeveloped stealth (but at least it is in the game now).
Gees, guys just download latest 0.9.9.1 Light (about 0.9Mb), copy gamedata folder from the archive to Stalker folder and try it for yourself. It's takes like 3 minutes of time. If you won't like it just delete gamedata directory and it will be fully removed. No need to start a new game, but probably it works only with patched game.

I'm liking the changes there, the pitch black sky does sound odd though.
The fact that you can repair armor increases my interest too.

I have studied the mod features more deeper and noticing that many new features are optional to install, I think I have underestimated this... actually I may use this for my second run! :D
The few changes I have repaired with separate small mods are included, so that's a good news. Perhaps it's better alternative than having a game bloated with dozen of small mods.
From some strange reason, I'd like to have indestructible weapons.

I played with the mod some more yesterday, and now I think it's a cheat to some degree. Weapon's damage is increased considerably and in majority of cases it's possible to kill with just one of few shots even from great distances, aslo enemies became kind of blind... So I don't know, the gameplay seems too easy now. Marked One also can be killed much more quickly with the mod installed, but pressing F7 takes a second, just a few shots from great distance even with a pistol, few quickloads if you're unlucky - and you win the encounter.
So I think I'll continue my first run through the game without it after all.

These features aren't optional for install?

I tried _LIGHT version, it's just an archive of gamedata directory without installer.

They are destructible? They just degrade slowly in my case.

I think that's what he meant. It's kinda cool that you can shoot guns/armour on the floor and they'll break.
