I completed the first Redoran quest yesterday (the mud crab quest) and after one of the most pointless and annoying quests I've ever experienced I returned to Neminda only to discover my efforts were for free!
I've never done any house quests before but I was wondering whether or not you get paid for your efforts after the first quest?
By the way what is it with this game and crap directions; if the designers found it so hard to direct you then they should put a temporary 'way mark' on your map that would disappear after you reached it.
I know 'exploring' is part of the game but this quest went beyond the joke - i ended up forgetting the instructions and simply combed the mountains battling through constant dust storms and those dammed f****** cliff racers which have gone to the top of my list after rats as the most annoying creatures in the game.

Just finished another quest to deliver a 'cure common disease potion' etc and did i get paid for my trouble? Did I hell!
Is this the shape of things to come?
Also after being promoted again (to oathman) my reputation is still on 0 - is this normal?
I only have the Morag Tong to compare this faction to and well they paid 500 drakes per mission and every time you were promoted your fame rating went up by one.

House Telvanni throws big chunks of loot your way and they teach you spells for free for the simplest quests ('Oh thanks for going to the nearby alchemist and buying some stuff for me, here's a spell and you can keep the left over money'). And you even get an explanation for most of your quests ('I need the Sload Soap for an oinment that eases my master's pains').

It's undoubtedly due to your House, Red; Hlaalu are merchants and give monetary rewards, Telvanni are absent-minded wizards and give spells and monetary rewards, Redoran are old chivalry buffs and many of its leaders probably feel the task is a reward in and of itself. I'm just starting a Redoran char, (I've done Hlaalu & Telvanni) but that's the feeling I've gotten so far at its lower levels.

Well hopefully they might throw some half decent magic armour/weapons my way but I doubt it... Seems a bit cheap to me I mean they don't even provide a store chest where house members can freely help themselves to restore health potions etc.
What about my reputation rating problem? Like I said I've been promoted up to the rank of oathman and I'm still on 0 reputation - is this normal?

...The rep thing isn't a bug is it? How far up the Redoran 'chain of command' do i need to go before getting a point of reputation?

WOW third post now without a reply...
Just an update anyway I've been promoted again :) and I've finally gained 1 point worth of rep (lawman rank).
Oh and I've still not been paid even after the last quest cost me two bottles of telvanni bug musk (worth 100 each) and 200 drakes more to persuade this Hlaalu guard to give back this helm he stole...
I'm nearly flat broke and its only because I can repair my own weapons and armour I've got this far - i wonder what reasoning the designers used when creating a guild where you aren't paid or given any rewards for your troubles?

It very much depends on your house as to how they reward you. The Redoran are honourable warriors... therefore you do your duty for honour, not for money.
Hlaalu, on the other hand, reward very well for some quests... a glass curiass and glass boots went down very nicely at one point.

Oh I understand your reasoning about why Redoran doesn't pay you for the quests BUT there is IMHO an issue with game balance. If you're getting glass armour and Telvanni wizards getting spells etc why deliberately punish Redoran members?
Perhaps the game designers thought the life of a wizard and thief are far harder than that of a flat broke knight and so rewarded people for playing such characters?
I suppose I should start saving up for the 5000 I know I'll have to pay for my stronghold...
