This is weird. I could have sworn I'd posted a new thread already but if it's wandering around somewhere and suddenly appears, then my apologies for double threading!
I've got a BSOD on trying to load Windows XP SP2 32 bit. Having managed to stop the computer from continually rebooting and done a bit of a search, I can read the error message and found a hotfix for it which says:
You may receive a "STOP 0x00000035 NO_MORE_IRP_STACK_LOCATIONS" error message when you try to log on to a domain.
But I'm not trying to log on to a domain, just trying to get into this pc.
So, I wondered whether the hotfix was the correct thing to install. I've read the instructions and can follow them!! Or should I go the whole hog and install SP3 which includes this. I've been resisting SP3 for some reason I don't remember at the moment. And as I can only get into safe mode (with networking), can I install either of these in safe mode. I've now found a utility which has got Windows Installer working.
As usual, any help would be gratefully received, especially if it's assumed that I'm not technically minded. :)
And although I don't want to be pushy at all, I'm going to be lacking in regular internet again from Sunday and would really like to try and fix this before I go.

There is no reason not to install XP SP3, it works fine. :)
Safe mode install should work also.
Let us know if it fixes the problem or not.

:) Thank you very much! All safely installed and no more BSODs. Something is still going on though as it has a tendency to hang. And I'm now doing an umpteenth scan to make sure the viruses/spyware that were inhabiting it have gone.
I still have one problem to resolve and that is getting rid of the STOPZilla.exe and the BHO but I expect a quick search will remind me of what I should be doing.
Thank you again.
[Edit] I'm not sure if I'm going mad but I keep seeing double words in my posts but not when I look at them in Edit. Most strange.

Well everything seems to be greatly improved particularly now I've got Firefox reinstalled.
This isn't urgent at all but as I'll be returning this pc to its occasional user and he doesn't play Thief or even really know what a computer game is, is there anything in particular that .net framework is vital for?
Ladron De La Noche on 28/11/2010 at 00:59
It's not vital, you're safe with them as well without. Certain applications use the .net libraries and will prompt for them if missing. e.g paint.net, games for windows live client etc. etc. I usually avoid .net apps as much as possible. ;)
Win7 and Vista come with .net libraries already installed I believe. XP users have a choice to intstall or not.

Thank you - I was asking because it takes up such a lot of space. But that can wait.
The Same BSOD returned this morning. ******. I was supposed to go home today but the leak in the central heating pipes has not been fixed after all so I may well have to stay another day.
I shall carry on my searching for another answer. :)
[Edit] Well I've found an answer for that one but now have a 000050 which could be any one of a number of things so I'm going to leave this for now.
Thanks for the help again!
[Edit again] Having discovered the delights of EventViewer and found a nifty utility for reading minidumps, I've decided there's so much wrong with this machine that it's probably beyond my abilities to fix. Perhaps if the company who built the 4 baby pcs for us had given us an XP Pro disc, I might have had a chance.
And perhaps one day I will learn enough to cobble something together with bits from the other 3 which aren't really working anymore either.
