some quick questions
is the $4162 what's left after paying for the new server ?
and any ETA on the transfer to the "deep thought" system ?
David on 2/2/2009 at 12:39
$4162 is the total before paying for the new server. I shall update the totals once I have everything reconciled and have actually paid out for the server.
There's a small delay in getting the new server set up as I accidentally put my work postcode into the direct debit agreement instead of my home postcode. This has resulted in the need to send a scan of my passport to the hosts so they can verify who I am. I sent this on Friday, so hopefully it'll be processed today.
In fairness, I do type my work postcode far more than my home one. :erg:
I'm also about 75% of the way through downloading the entirety of the server, which is a painful slog!
TTLG & the forums will be the first to get uploaded. I'll be getting the entire site working on the new server, download a final backup of the forums, upload it to the new server and then we should be good to go.

This may have occured to you already, but make sure the hosts have a secure storage for the copy of your passport if they are going to retain it...
Dave Im sure no one would object if you took the cost to your home bandwidth from the fund. TTLG as a whole must be several 10's of gigabytes..?

I'll second both those points
who are the new hosts btw, I'm just curious as you got a pretty good deal and I might be interested in some server space if they are cheap enough
thanks for the update and don't feel bad about the postcode mixup if I'm ever asked for my home phone or mobile number I have to go and look them up ;)

The server contract has been activated and they are currently installing and configuring the machine, which could take several days depending on their workload.
Just as a point of interest, we will be running Windows Server 2008 64 bit.
I certainly won't be taking donations for my bandwidth usage. Quite apart from the fact I am well inside my monthly limit, quite a lot of the upload and download of the new server will be done at work, which has a nice fast internet connection I am able to wholeheartedly abuse.
