just wondering how some of the incentives would work... perhaps there should be a reward system based on tiers, where a certain amount donated earns all the incentives for that tier and below?
basic:
* A custom title (perhaps multiple choice of Hammerite/Mechanist/Pagan/Keeper Initiate)
* A custom color scheme for the forums (since many other forums have this as a free feature)
* "Donor" graphic in all posts, below username
* "Donor" titles next to names in member list
* "Top Donors" listing in member list
mid-level:
* A custom title (perhaps multiple choice of Hammerite/Mechanist/Pagan/Keeper Guard)
* Ability to attach images and other files to your posts on the forums
* An email address (with limited storage) at any of the domains we have, be it @ttlg.com, @thief-thecircle.com, @bioshock-online.com - anything.
high roller:
* A custom title (perhaps multiple choice of Hammerite/Mechanist/Pagan/Keeper Priest)
* Expanded storage for hosted email address
* Basic website hosting (for a static HTML site, or maybe a Wordpress blog) hosted at any of the domains we have. For example (
http://YourName.ttlg.com)
* Private forums for your FM beta testing or outside projects
this way the higher donors get better rewards - I figured the high-roller rewards require more bandwidth and more upkeep, so more money would be needed to implement them. I chose a multiple choice title system so it wouldn't be abused; people pick their favorite faction (which can be changed at any time) and their rank goes up according to their donor level.
PS: don't forget, TTLG has a (
http://www.cafepress.com/ttlgonline) cafepress store! selection is limited, but proceeds could go to hosting fees...

I'm not terribly fond of any idea that would promote a caste system.

Agreed. I think it's a terrible idea to start dividing people into categories. Again, it would be similar to buying status or influence, which is just fucked up.
What's wrong with what David has already suggested?
For some people, this donation scheme seems to be turning into a way to feather one's own nest, rather than keeping it as an unselfish act of good will and support for the community.

I personally like the thermometer loot counter, although it could have looked more thiefy. I also think the custom feature bonus that has already been offered should be enough. The only thing that might be psycologically useful would be the guilt system of making a list of donors, leaving out the amounts donated of course. This might guilt others into joining the list. Kind of like buying your name on a brick. Then the list gets renewed each year. Or maybe TTLG admins could just send out keychain sized blackjacks as an incentive and be done with it.:cheeky: I don't know really and I shall now move onto another thread.

It would essentially turn donating into a payment for something where differing amounts get differing levels of perks. I want the system to be simple and fair. It doesn't matter if you donate £10 or £100, you get the same choice. I'd like people to donate because they like TTLG and want to see it continue and improve, not because they might get some extra stuff.
Plus it would be a pain in the arse to manage.
As for the thermometer, I grabbed something off the web and changed it a bit at 6:30 in the morning :p Plus I have the artistic ability of a mars bar, so it would have been terrible.

And as a P.S., while I was thinking about this, I came to the conclusion that there were any number of TTLGers I'd trust to pass money on.

You really just don't get it.But I'll tell you what - if you want to retract your donation, I'll match it so we don't lose ground.

as soon as people chip in, they start assuming they must also get clout with it. That should be enough. If your only reason for donating was to buy influence, you're in this for the wrong reasons
This is exactly what I am referring to, belligerence and over eagerness to jump to conclusions and make assumptions :erg:

If people in the UK do not have a PayPal account and wish to donate with either cash or a cheque, then drop me a PM for my address.
No offence Biker, but it's far more efficient that UK donations come straight to me, than via a third party.

You do realise that a lot of the people here have absolutely nothing to do with Thief, right?
