Hi all, long time Thief fan, first time poster.
A couple of years ago I picked up Thief Gold in order to play through the missions I missed in the original game. Back then the game worked just fine on my computer, though I only played through the first couple of missions.
Now however, after installing it again on the same machine I can't seem to make it work. I can watch the the movies in-game and use the menu just fine. As soon as I click "continue" to start a mission I get a black screen and the game freezes. This seems to be a common problem.
I've tried every fix I could find. I have installed the game on XP using the
-lgntforce command. I have used the texture error fix for Gold found on this forum, I've tried both the permanent and temporary multiprocessor hyperthreading fixes ( (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/)) and I've tried all three solutions together. Nothing seems to help! I feel like I must be missing something...
I'm running a PC with a pentium 4 processor and an ATI Radeon 9600 graphics card. Is there anyone who can help me finally get my Thief fix? I'll buy you a big jug of metaphorical Hammerite! :cheeky:
Thanks,
aspirant

Almost sounds like a script is missing, but if you're only playing Thief Gold, that doesn't seem to fit. You could try (
http://timeslip.chorrol.com/ddfix.html) ddfix, but your video card isn't that new that it would be a factor (I ran Thief Gold for years on a 9800 Pro without ddfix).
You might want to try posting (unless this post gets moved) in the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=153) Legacy Gaming Technical Help forum.

I have the same problem, though I have a different cause. I think many modern drivers are not compatible with TDP/TG. I know that this is the case with my Nvidia drivers, and it may be the cause of your problem as well.
Don't downgrade your drivers just yet though, it may be caused by something else. :erg:
If it turns out that they are the problem, and you aren't playing any modern games that need the newest drivers, then downgrading might be an option. If you play anything that needs directx9, like I do, the only options I know are: Constantly downgrade/upgrade when you want to switch games, don't play any dx9 games, or don't play TDP/TG. :(
Sorry I couldn't be more help. If a fix for this has been discovered since I last tried to play TDP, then hopefully someone will tell you soon :)

This sounds like a corrupt gfx driver..Completely un-install the ati drivers, reboot then reinstall and see how you go.

Well, I tried both upgrading and downgrading my drivers but still no luck. The really annoying thing is that my copy of Thief 2 is working just fine. I've even tried using a downloaded copy of Gold instead of my CD version to no avail... oh well!
