Okay so this is clearly a wonderful game. And I REALLY want to finish the damn thing. But for some reason that is beyond me, everytime I try to load my last quicksave, the game crashes. That was okay for a while, but now it won't even let me load my hard saves. The only thing that works is loading my last autosave.
BUT it gets worse! After I load my autosave (Cordon, coming back from the dark valley post-x18), I go to the trader to get my reward, and he gives me the quest to steal the documents form the military base nearby. Great. HOWEVER, as soon as he gived me the quest, I am unable to save the game at all (ie. both quick and hard saves) without crashing. So essentially I am stuck at the entrance to the Cordon without a reason to continue playing because the game simply won't let me.
Has anyone else had this problem, or a similar one? I really like this game (much scarier than Bioshock, imo), and want more than anytrhing to find a way to keep playing that isn't simply starting all over again. Please help me if you know anything!

Space your paragraphs wouldja? Before people can help you we have to understand you.
Next, when asking for a technical problem, post your pc's spec. Are you running the game on an adequate computer? There's no crystal ball to tell us these things, we won't know that unless you tell us.
What version of the game are you running? Have you checked the update log of the latest patch? Did you search/ask for an answer on the official stalker board?
Come back after having done all those things.

Man y'all here have become needy - when was a formal "this is how you must write posts" code instituted? Everything I wrote was intelligible and completely comprehensible - even if I didn't have the requisite amount of spaces. Please try to actually read posts that ask for help before you patronize their authors.
Sorry if I'm a bit snappy. I've always come to ttlg because I know people here love games as much as I do, and have always been great at helping out others who are having trouble - I posted here because I couldn't find my answer elsewhere.
I didn't post my specs because I know my computer is adequate (runs Crysis at max settings without a hitch) so I'm pretty sure it's not a tech problem, and I'm running the most recent patch of Stalker (1.005) - the update list of which mentions nothing about my particular problem. I'm not running any mods (used the repair one for a bit and then uninstalled it), and I'm out of ideas as to what's causing this crash bug.
Hence my post here at ttlg. I'm not looking to be patronized, nor to patronize - just for help from some good people who probably know more about games than I do. Anyone care to offer? I'd be immensely grateful.

I think your problem is that you

The mod could leave some 'leftovers' in the save game folder (IIRC it's hidden pretty well somewhere in the Documents and Settings folder). Firstly you should try to completely clean it including possible .ini files etc., saving only actual save files, then reinstall the game, patch it to 1.0004 or 1.0005. If it won't help, I think the save files already are affected by the mod so you won't be able play further using them without crashes without the mod.

Why do you feel patronized when asked to provide proper spec and patch history for a tech question?
It goes without saying.

I have had the same problem recently crop up. Every save I've made since I installed the repair mod won't load, with the exception of autosaves. Has anyone dealt with a similar problem? I actually want to use the mod, and it's not a "real" issue, i.e. unworkable, since obviously the game can still make saves that work, since autosave works, and people play through entire games with mods. Even possibly places to start looking for a fix would be appreciated.
I'm running the 1.0005 or whichever patch, the most recent one, on Vista
32bit. The only mods I'm running are Float32, which I've been running since I started the game, and recently Repair Mod 2.5 Multilingual, which like I said, it's every save (I only use hard saves) that I've made after that point that wont load, excepting autosaves.
Edit: Ok so I did a few tests. Currently any save except autosaves made with the mod enabled will be corrupt, will not load, this includes quick saves. I can however, turn the mod off, load an autosave made with it on, and then make a new save after that point, which will save. At this point I have an autosave not five minutes before my most recent save, so I can easily turn the mod off and completely forget about it. However I actually want to use the mod, and currently that would require some rediculous set up where I go to the trader, save my game, exit, enable mod, load, repair stuff, leave area, quit, disable mod, load autosave, continue to play. A Hassle, to say the least. Anyone have any suggestions on getting this to work, it seems like a really simple mod, just a few dialogue choices, shouldn't be giving this much trouble.
More Testing More Editing: Hokay, so it seems like the problem may be with this one particular mod, (
http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Repair_Mod_RusItaEngFraEspGerCzePol;78833) This one, version 2.5. I tested it out with (
http://stalker.filefront.com/file/Repair_Mod_Rus_Eng_Ger;78100) this guy recommended elsewhere on the forum, and it didn't seem to corrupt anything, hard or quick saves. The issue is that I chose initially not to use this one because it seemed inferior. Less colour in the various traders, inability to see how much repairs would cost before you got them, the fact that they would still actually repair it if you didn't have enough money. Furthermore, I'm not as happy with the balance for this one. I didn't like the idea of just throwing away armour and weapons, ones I'd grown fond, everytime they neared half damage. However, I should have to pay a pretty decent sum for the privledge of keeping my thigns in top shape, and the latter, mod just doesn't do that, the prices seem a pittance. Cap'n Dopetastic, which particular repair mod were you using? Maybe we can narrow this down to a particular bug in the mod, and see if there's a workaround.
Ok, last edit this time I promise: Yeah, looks like that mod has issues with patches past 1.0003 appears to be a known issue. Dopetastic, if you indeed used the same repair mod as me, it seems that the mod hasn't fully been removed, which is why even after uninstalling new saves continue to be corrupt. Just hang on to your most recent autosave, then uninstall and reinstall the game. Patch it up to the most recent, then load that autosave, and see if you can't make new saves from that. Assuming we have the same problem that should hopefully help you out. Let me know how it works.
Final Note: Jeez this post was a mess.

I had a similar problem just last night. Hard crash that reset my PC when I left the Dark Valley after X18, and then it crashed every time I clicked on my last quick save. After loading the auto-save, going to Cordon and talking to the trader saving still worked correctly, however. And I've never installed any mods.
What graphic settings are you running it at (res, detail levels, AA, etc)? I've got everything maxed except resolution, AA, and Aniso, and I think that might have had something to do with the initial crash, which corrupted the quicksave.

Ok, so quick update. If you find your saves are constantly getting corrupted, perhaps as a result of mods, go ahead and check this out. Go into your Stalker\gamedata\config\ directory and look for system.ltx. Open that up and search for the line current_server_entity_version = X. X should be 7 if you have 1.005 installed, 6 if 1.004. I'm not sure what it is for before that, but I assume most of these problems are for mods that haven't been updated since 1.005 came out. If that's the version you have and that's set to 6, that's your problem right there. Change it to 7 and your saves shouldn't be getting corrupted anymore. This even allows you to use aforementioned mods, like the repair one that gave me all the trouble.
