An updated Homeworld 1 would be nice. Hope it's good.

This is good news. I was gonna have a playthrough of both games, but I guess I can wait for the HD releases.
Kinda sad that Sega didn't acquire the IP along with Relic. Looks like they'll be churning out increasingly dull DoW games and CoH (was disappointed with CoH 2), which is a bit of a waste.

You know, I think Gearbox really just are dickish in general (cf. Aliens: CM, DNF), but you can't deny they've got passion. This is great to hear. Obviously they're funding it, and obviously they've got a contract fashioned to ensure they come out on top from this, and obviously they're trying to find a way to subsume these guys into the GB fold with the purchase of the IP -- they can do it the right way, or the wrong way. But reasons to trust them have steadily dwindled.

Remind me, what exactly was dickish about DNF? Because everything wrong with that game was pretty much 3D Realms's George Broussard's fault.
Aliens CM was pretty bad, but Gearbox has otherwise had a pretty solid rep.

Simple morals: DNF shouldn't have been released. Gearbox obviously would have recognised this was a mediocre, uninspired game after looking at what 3DR had wrought for it - anybody would have - but they chose to patch it up, slap some connective tissue on, and push it out anyway. Most of the work would have been sorting through the rubble of previous development versions and stitching various pieces together - less work, less money required, and even if it bombed critically, the infamy of it would ensure they got money out of it anyway. They had good PR around it that covered up these little facts with Randy having been with 3DR and being 'the biggest Duke fan ever', but the truth of it is the game was a lost cause that was sold for a quick buck.

That's awfully bitter, considering that DNF is actually a decent game in its own right, just 6-7 years out of date.

Aliens CM isn't really much worse than DNF, and it's a fuckload better than the Sega AVP game was. Or, rather, it's at least as good as that game was. I don't want to make it sound like it's particularly good or anything.

Weren't Gearbox accused of diverting funds given to them to develop A:CM to Borderlands 2?
