Perhaps this would be better suited to CommChat, but I thought it might be of interest to
Stalker fans:

From the small pic, I am getting somewhat of a Stalkerish vibe, and the world of Cormac McCarthy's novel is similarly unforgiving as the Zone. I'm not trying to make much of a connection out of this, but it may be of interest. :)

This looks sweet, I may watch this. I'd bet a copper they were inspired by some visual elements from the game...

I'd bet 20 bucks that you'd lose that copper.

That's why I bet just a copper.

The the premise is, I think, that everything on the land except people has died or all the plants have died and everything else is following or something. The choice of a cold foresty city for that setting in a film is pretty cool. Much better than the usual (albeit convenient) desert post apocalyptic landscape.
So it probably won't have Stalker's 'back to nature' abandonment thing going on.

I'm currently about a third of the way through the book and just last night before I dozed off, I was contemplating who'd play the protagonist well in a possible movie adaptation (I didn't even know this was happening) - my frontrunner was probably Brolin, but Mortensen is a good choice too. The guy needed to be stony but with an everyman quality, bulky but not muscular, gentle and kind but with a hard-edged survival to his nature. It's an interesting book to adapt... I'm not sure if the book ever gets any more specific about what happens other than the clues it drops, the "ash" that covers everything certainly lends weight to a nuclear blast and the resultant "winter".

So it's sort of another 'Alone On Earth' idea for film which seem to grow popularity nowadays. I LOVE THIS TOPIC. Last time it had Will Smith in it and he kinda ruined the idea.

From what I heard, Will Smith was actually one of the better things about I Am Legend. And the father and son in The Road are not alone on earth, which is part of the problem. No light-sensitive vampires in that one, though.

I dunno, I have allergic skin reaction by just seeing face of that guy. I always perceive him as just version X.XX of a black gangsta cop prototype raised on ghetto hip-hop.
Thirith on 13/8/2008 at 10:03
Hmm... Different strokes, clearly, but that doesn't tally at all with my perception of Will Smith. If anything, without a good director he tends to do the "inoffensive black guy with Disneyfied gansta 'tude" - there's a world of difference between him and real wannabe gangstas. He's the kind of hip-hopper that white grandmothers like. And he can be great fun in films such as Men in Black.
With a director who knows how to handle actors, though, the guy can definitely act.
