I was playing Silksong yesterday and minding my own business when I just suddenly kind of finished the game. Okay, there was this fairly "epic" boss fight (which was surprisingly easy!) but I had no idea that it would be THE end boss. I gotta say that I felt quite disappointed when the end credits started rolling after the fight, when I was expecting the next chapter to begin instead.
Apparently there are multiple endings in Silksong and I think I got the "standard" one, but surely this has got to be one of the least satisfying endings for a game that I can think of. My game ended at the end of Act 2, but I found out that if you discover some secret stuff in the game and do this and that, you'll be able to unlock Act 3 after defeating the big boss. As much as I like the little creatures of Pharloom, I think that a big part of the lore in Silksong is just cryptic nonsense. Even though the world is beautifully crafted otherwise and incredibly fun to explore, the story (what story?) and the lore didn't really impress me.
It now seems quite obvious to me that Silksong was designed with speed runners and crazy challenges in mind. I must have spent like 90% of the time trying to figure out what to do next, or collecting money for tools that I never even needed, but if you know exactly where to go and rush through the whole game, I have a feeling that you could beat the game in a couple of hours. Well, of course you will have to beat some of those tough bosses too, and that'll slow down most of the players...
I very much enjoyed my time in Silksong, but the ending has left kind of a sour taste for me. It's still one of the best metroidvanias that I've played though, and there's so much to do and so many things to discover. I'll most likely start a new game some time in the future when I've recovered from this disappointment. :D
