I don't see what the point of you engaging here is
This is General Gaming, and I'd
like to talk about the most popular game of the year, preferably with people who've actually played it. I'm afraid I have no interest in engaging in religious discussions, and besides, this is hardly the forum for it. Have fun in CommChat if that's what you're after.

Anarchic Fox is being too generous. You used the phrase “feminist causes” to describe JKR's tirades, and that implies that either you think advocating against trans rights is somehow feminism or else you were just trying to get a reaction or both. But either way there's no good faith in anything you've said.
And yeah, Eva clearly had all this in mind, so he's the real winner here.

Eva really has a talent for starting the best dumpster fire threads.
The only real opinion I have about the Harry Potter world is that I care about people that care about it. So my interest really just extends to being engaged with them than that world itself. And I don't think they're into the game anyway...
My fantasy go-to was always Piers Anthony growing up, who like Gen-X generally was just skipped straight over like it was straight from Lord of the Rings & Narnia to Harry Potter with nothing in between. But those were all always 2nd fiddle for me from the start. All I want to know is when do we get the Xanth movies and video games?

It should be fairly obvious that not many people here have so far or intend to play it, except for maybe Eva, so you're better off waiting until people have done so instead of feinting being indignant about and inured to the general discourse regarding people's social and political stances in relation to whatever bugaboo you have. Given that this is also feeding into your minor attention whoring trait, I too am disengaging with you now, since if I get any clearer than this I'd have to be invisible.

I was always pissed off the JK pretty much just ripped off Dianna Wynne Jones, but second rate at best.
I think Xanth movies/games might be somewhat more problematic than Harry Potter.
Anarchic Fox on 3/3/2023 at 18:44
I do think Rowling's awfulness, and the way people bend over backwards to justify their indifference towards it, is more interesting than the game itself.

There was (
https://www.filfre.net/2019/12/companions-of-xanth-preceded-by-the-worrisome-case-of-piers-anthony/) this Xanth game. (The retrospective is accompanied by deservedly harsh criticism of Anthony, from a person with little prior experience with his writing.)

Aha, natürlich und leider. I guess I knew never to touch his adult works, and the Xanth series goes about 7~8 books in before it starts derailing & apparently before the sleaze really started to set in, but evidently not completely. But there's probably a reason I never wanted to read too much about him.
I think YA fantasy was probably always going to be fraught. You could look up to Ursula & the two Terrys, but when you're 12 in the 1980s, I guess you want something more equivalent to the A-Team and Dukes of Hazard.
Wow, it's getting to the point a kid can't read anything without worrying about who's writing this stuff.
What's next, The Bible?!
Starker on 4/3/2023 at 00:54
I don't know if stuff like Earthsea is exactly kids' material, but Discworld certainly seems like it would have fit the bill. But what do I know, we had access to none of that at the time.
