You could also try to delete the video file.
You've patched your game, haven't you?
One more thing: I know I'll be called Mr. Mission Cleaner soon, but there might be a palette problem due to additionally installed custom textures in your Thief folder, try a Thief folder cleanup (see (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48202) Fan Missions FAQ)
If this still doesn't work, provide us with additional informations about your system, like operating system, graphics and sound card, driver versions, any other FMs that doesn't work for you, and anything else that might help to find the problem.

Orobas - I think you're looking at the wrong walkthrough. There are many differences between each difficulty level so there's a walkthrough specifically for "Poor" and another one for the other two difficulty settings. You'll find the one you need (
http://thiefmissions.com/walkthroughs/HornsOfCanzo_part1_ALongWayUp_deluxe/HOC-PWalk.htm) here . It specifies another way into the area. You don't use the Water Talisman to get there on this setting.

Do you have the
VP3 codec installed? It's required to watch the intro movie at the start of the mission, so that could be the problem. The program can be found in the zip file.
Else try reinstalling all (
http://www.thiefmissions.com/scripts/) custom scripts, as well as the Standard Thief Scripts (convict.osm and gen.osm) available (
http://www.thiefmissions.com/darkloader/) here.
I did a search and couldn't find a VP3 codec file listed anywhere on my main drive. I see the 'VP3_VFW_Win' file when (after copying the HOC zipped folder & pasting somewhere other than where my T2 FMs are located) I open the HOC folder. I get a message that I need to extract it but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to extract it to. Sorry, but there's still a lot I have to learn about these things. Where should I extract the VP3 file to please?

I wouldn't know how to go about deleting the video file & would like to try to install the VP3 codec thingy first. Yes, I've patched the game and if the VP3 thing doesn't work, then I'll try your other suggestions.
Thanks for the helpful hints guys! Much appreciated! :thumb:

Just extract to anyplace on your computer. It's an .exe file so once you've got it extracted, just double click on it to run it and it will install itself.

Thanks Nightwalker.

Excellent. Thanks Nightwalker:thumb:
However, I found the spot, and I cant jump with my sword pulled and my blackjack seems useless against the stalagmites. I tried standing on a box to no avail

It takes a bit of practice but you CAN do it. I'd give you a more detailed description but I don't have any saves on Poor and it's too late here to start it now.

I've tried. I can't jump with my sword drawn, even in other areas. I have tried running at them with my sword raised high, but it comes down before I can reach anything. I think that maybe I will have to do over at a harder level or something where I can use the key:sweat:
Are you sure that a black jack cant be used?

You
can use the black jack to destroy the stalagmites, but it takes a very long time.
Bashing the stalagmites with the sword is more effective (especially if you use the overhead swing), and it is possible most of the time, although difficult to achieve. I always look for a place where Garrett still stands in shallow water, so jumping is possible. I do not remember the exact technique I used, but it involved a jump with the sword already raised or at least partially raised. I think I raise the sword high enough to do an overhead swing, then I jump and release the mouse button, thus doing the overhead swing.
Sometimes, one can even jump onto another stalagmite and bash the others from there. To do so, you should try to destroy only one of the two parallel rows of stalagmites.
Sometimes, you have to lean forward while bashing (ALT-W, I think).
Try to experiment a bit with the surroundings, with jumping and with leaning.
I do not know what difficulty level I was playing on when I did this, but as far as I remember, there were no differences concerning this way into the forest area when playing on different difficulty levels.
Another way into the forest area might be using an explosive device in the mines. You can then drop down a hole, but you will land right among some spiders. Furthermore, I dimly remember I once tried this and could not escape the forest any more, so it might be a dead end.

Yes, getting into that area is very different. On the other 2 settings, you must have the Water Talisman and use it in a particular place. You can't smash the "teeth" on those settings but on Poor, that's the only way in.
