I reckon you've finished. For me it usually drops back to the "New Game/ Quit" menu screen, but the end result is the same. :)

AH, good. I was fearful that I couldn't play on.
Thanks.

I just played the Horns of Canzo and for me it was an extraordinary moment to see the Alps and all those Carabinieri guards since I live here in the Alps and see those Carabinieri every day.
Looking really foreward for the second part.
Grazie Sterlino

I'm currently replaying HoC on ghost difficulty and I'm having trouble destroying the Hell Portal. The (
http://www.thiefmissions.com/walkthroughs/HornsOfCanzo_part1_ALongWayUp_deluxe/HOC-SGWalk.htm) walkthrough and this thread didnt helped me much :(
I charged the sceptre in the magical pool in the forest and tried to use it on the Fire Elemental Lock to destroy the portal. Drop it on the lock, use it, nothing worked. I stood directly behind the lock between the door and the pedestral, as described in the walktrough, but no success. It's my final objective, what to do

I think you were in a bit of a hurry reading the walkthrough! :) Read the "Destroying the Portal" section again. It tells you to use the Fire Key on the Elemental Lock, and the Sceptre on the portal.

Thanks ffox :thumb:, that was what I did wrong. Such a detailed walkthrough you and Nightwalker made, and even then I managed to make this mistake. Using the sceptre on the lock instead of the portal itself :eww:....
Mission completed :D
You really created an excellent mission Sterlino. In can't think of any other fanmission with so many new enemies, textures, objects, weapons, sounds etc as this one. It gives the mission a unique atmosphere. One of the best mountain/wilderness setting I've ever seen in a fm. And the in-game shop is fantastic.
Plenty of hard to find secrets and loot, many objectives and various area's to keep your exploring the large italian mountain setting. Story, gameplay, atmosphere, non-linear paths, briefing movie, everything well done.
Expert is even more fun because some possiblities you have on the easier difficulty settings are absent, and It's a real challenge to complete the optional objectives (don't activate the alarm, find all the secrets, ghost) as well.
Sadly I still found some bugs that spoiled the fun occasionaly. For example,
I failed the optional ghost mode objective because the red sentence 'you've been spotted' poped up every time I walked through an empty tunnel.
But overall I really enjoyed your mission. Thank you. Good luck with Part 2!
A question: In secret nr. 5
(hole in the ground behind a building)
I found a book about Arkhyn's Tomb. The last page tells that a thief may find the tomb one day. Are we able to explore that tomb in Part 2 or is it just fiction?

thank you Phantom, i'm glad that you like it.;)

I did mumble something about a bloody revenge on the author for hiding the entryway in the first level so well that it pissed me off big time.
But I will try again or just quit altogether.

For me this mission consistantly crashes to the desktop every time i try and enter the quicksand area, so i guess it is unfinishable. This is the only mission out of dozens i have had a problem like this.

Welcome to the Club!
I have the same problem and gave up as well. I tried three different computers (almost the only thing similar was that all three used Windows 98 SE), two difficulty levels, two or three ways into the forest area and then into the quicksand area and even switched from the "deluxe version" (includes a walkthru, if I recall correctly) to version 1.03b - no luck. Even drinking a speed potion and a slowfall potion and jumping like a grasshopper did not work. When Garrett sinks to a certain depth in the quicksand, I suddenly find myself back at Windows' Desktop. Occasionally, the last image of the quicksand stays on screen instead, but the result is the same.
I have not tried to mantle the wall to the left of the quicksand. It looks somewhat climbable to me. But since this is not mentioned in any walkthru I read, I guess that's not possible.
If anyone knows a way around the quicksand, please tell me. Although I am not sure whether I shall like or hate this mission in the end, I can see that the author put a lot of ideas and effort into it. I'd like to see what other rabbits he pulled out of his DromEd hat.
