Hmm anyone thought about doing a Deus Ex remake on a not so different engine, UT2004? - by Duder

Anyone ever thought of doing a remake of the first game on UT2004 the latest unreal engine, as a mod of some sorts?
Ive always wanted to do that, then i remembered i have no talent whatsoever when it comes to modding, so my chance of remaking Deus Ex on the UT2004 engine with making the enviroments more...detailed, bigger (Such as turning the UNATCO HQ into a credible HQ with rows of cubicles and detention cells, etc etc Turning the 'Ton into a mini Hotel Carone) and more credible, more npcs to maybe breath mor elife, ambience of vehicles and people would be a good idea... making the characters more vivid in movements (the way people ran in Deus Ex was pretty amusing), better AI (really needed), was pretty slim.
So anyone would take the challange to fine tune an already great game and fix the faults of the original? Heh.

I could code some for a project like this, but I just got UT2004 and I havent quite perfected some of my techniques. Also we would need artists and mapmakers. I can does very little texture work and mapmaking, but I am not at all very good at either. How about asking for some help on some UT2004 forums?

I've been playing quite a bit of the original UT recently, and I think that UNATCO HQ would make a decent Assault map.
ATTACKERS start just inside the doors (Which used to be part of UNATCOIsland.dx)
DEFENDERS start around Jaime's offices
OBJECTIVE -
1) Destroy the retinal scanner on the main door
2) Destroy the 'Eschelon Node' (Alex's computer)
3) Breach the MJ-12 facility (Pretty obvious)
Because this map is so small, it should have a crazy time limit like 3 minutes :p
Perhaps even a lift in Manderly's office with the toilet as the switch that takes you to the
Club Vox

UT 2004 has reintroduced the assualt mode. unfortunatly no one except the Epic and Digital Extremes people know how to make assualt maps for now, so someone will have to figure it out.

I would think this idea is perfectly possible, with a lot of work obviously. Only problem I can think of woul be the conversations, but they should be compatible with 2nd-gen Unreal once the it's been coded into the engine. I sometimes find it hard to believe that 2nd-gen Unreal is a different engine anyway; there's all this crap left over from the old engine, especially in the lights for some reason.
All that said, I could makes maps for this since I can use both UnrealEd (DX) and UnrealEd3 (UT2k4) as soon as I find the install disk again. Damn my memory... other thing is the question of models; would they need redone too? For a start, DX uses a different method of implementing meshes from UT, so I imagine the gap between DX and UT2k4 is even bigger than it should be if it were just UT > UT2k4. But hey; they could use a quick wash & brush up, anyway.

To use the UT2k4 engine, you'd have to get a license. That's expensive stuff! Definitely something a 'fan game' couldn't really do. The Quake 2 source is free now, so you could consider that... :o
But obviously it's not very appealing graphics-wise. But it's great for remaking really old games. There's an X-Com remake coming, using the Q2 engine: (

Re-making Deus Ex to look more spiffy on the Quake 2 engine... ummm, I don't see the logic there. Surely we don't need a license if it's a non-commercial mod; I hear Capcom has a really good policy on that kind of thing. There's also some possible legal issues with ION Storm, but nothing that should matter unless it goes commercial.
And hot DAMN I'm looking forward to that UFO remake!:thumb:

...so shall I assume there isn't much support for this project or can I tempt you all with more shots? I may as well put a finish on this map now that I've started it.
