far-right websites.
Isn't 'Nazi' a shortened version of 'National Socialist'?
If so then doesn't that make them far-left?

Yes.

No.

In short, no.
In slightly longer, they had a broad manifesto in an attempt to appeal to all aspects of society - the farming community, the working class, the middle class, hilarious racists ... basically as many people as possible. They backed it up with some wacky "thugs at polling booths" antics, and so on. There were some centralised economic shenanigans which arguably share similarities with later Stalinist stuff, but whether either of those things were true to the writings of Marx is highly debatable. It is, perhaps unsurprisingly, much easier to compare characteristics of the Nazi Party with other self-styled "fascist" parties of the 20th century (Spanish Falangists, etc).
Anyway, in the end they turned out to be led by war-mongering genocidal maniacs. Whoops!
If they'd been called "The Fluffy Kitten Party" would you have been asking "BUT HANG ON, THEY DIDN'T EVEN LIKE KITTENS WHAT'S GOING ON I'M CONFUSED"?

edit: well, third time's a charm I guess :erg:
Cute idea, but unfortunately ... two kinds of "socialism": (1) on the right, "national socialism", exclusive, State acts on behalf of the society as nation. So if you ain't part of the "nation" (race), the State doesn't care about you, start packing. (2) on the left, "social democrat" (or labor) socialism, inclusive, State acts on behalf of society as labor-pool; we all pitch in to help the little (or outsider) guy get a job. The term "socailism" itself literally just means state acting on behalf of society ... but what kind?
We normally use the term nowadays just for (2) because of a bad experience with (1), unlike the case of the US using the term "liberal" for a leftist idea rather than a rightist idea like the rest of the world ("libertarian") for no better reason than it just plain f'ed up the term somewhere down the road.

Bonus prize goes to Nicker for joining Strontz's kneejerk brigade. How dare anyone examine Hitler as anything other than a cartoonish villain, after all?
Got yer cartoon for ya right (
http://www.parascope.com/gallery/galleryitems/holocaust/holocaust04.htm) here, Stitch. (Disturbing content warning!)
Add your own witty caption.

Jesus titty-fucking Christ, was there any need for that whatsoever?

Apparently the obvious isn't good enough for some people.

Are you one of those people that thought the German Democratic Republic was actually a democratic republic?

So yeah, you could say I'm over-reacting, but anything which puts Hitler in anything other than a bad light is veering into dangerous territory.
Just a little bit of an overreaction. You make it sound like acknowledging Hitler was an artist is some german history version of reefer madness.

...but I don't think it's a coincidence that a majority of the pages that Laz found Hitler's art on were far-right websites.
I don't think it's a coincidence either. What I don't understand is why you take that as evidence that the glorification of his art is becoming
more mainstream. You don't get much less mainstream than neo-nazi websites. Hitler has had his glorifiers since the day he shot himself in a dusty Berlin bunker.
We're all adults here, Stronts. We can in fact make the distinction between Hitler the artist and Hitler the monster and we really don't need you giving us lectures on the dangers of genocidal gateway drugs. It not only makes you look like some tittering granny but it's frankly pretty insulting.
