I've got the quest to steal 4 Odral Helvi's history books and return them in Ald'Ruhn Mage Guild. I have stolen them earlier and have sold or have thrown somewhere. Now I can not carry out this task as he does not accept any other set of books. Is it somehow possible to bypass this quest or I now have for ever got stuck in guild of thieves?

Well technically this is a Bal Molagmer quest, so you can still do the rest of the Thieves Guild quests; you get brownie points with the Thieves Guild if you do them, but no official Thieves Guild quest leading to you being Master Thief will be blocked by your situation.
You're just prohibited from doing more Bal Molagmer quests until/unless you do this one (a real pity IMHO... I loved the Bal Molagmer quests)
