Hi, I'm new to Morrowind. Anything I should know before getting started? - by jonas007

I just started playing Morrowind today and would like to know how to go about creating a decent character. I'm pretty much going to stay melee, with some supplementle powers. Here's a breakdown of what I did so far:
Class: Adventurer
Major Skills: Long Blade, Blunt, Enchant, Heavy Armor, speechcraft
Minor: Spear, axe, medium armor, retoration, armorer
Sign: The one thats about undead and healing
So besided character creation, are there any patches or mods that are neccessary to get the most out of the game?

I've got nothing useful to say. I had to give my copy of Morrowind back to its rightful owner. But I can tell you it is such a cool game! Khajiit and Argonians are cool! What race are you?

The barbarian type race. Its the one where your the viking looking guy with paint on the face.

I would..
* remove enchant and replaced it with Restoration, (And add Acrobatics in its place)
* Remove speechcraft and replace it with Destruction
* Remove spear and replace it with Athletics
* Remove axe and replace it with That-school-that-can-make-spells-that-can-open-locked-doors-and-chests
*
Sign: The lady (The one with 25end and 25pers, right?)
Prim. Attribute: Str
Sec. Attribute: Int
I know it's heavly modified.. but, that's what I would've chosen in my first run through the game.. but if you want an exciting game, use a thief character :)
Also, IMPORTANT, make sure you download the official patches!! (

Good luck with Morrowind!!

Best advice I can give it sto take it slow. It's a big game and it can be overwelming to begin with. Join a guild or two as soon as possible and stick to the quests. You're very weak at the beginning and if you go wandering off you'll get your arse handed to you faster than you can blink.

I agree with changing your weapons skills, you are probably only going to use one weapon skill throughout the game. Changing enchant is probably also usefull because I doubt you would use enchant much in your first game...
But I am not so sure about changing speechcraft, being able to persaude people effectively is very usefull but that is up to you.

Hi jonas007, welcome to Morrowind and to TTLG! I hope you have a gret time playing MW, it's a truly amazing game. You just have to be prepared to be patient, especially at first, it's a very long and involved game. I agree with what driver said about being cautious at first, stick close to the starting town because the quests and dungeons around there are suitable for beginner characters. Guilds like the Fighter's will start you off with nice manageable quests while you find your feet as well.....
There are so many mods available it's scary, but if you go here you'll find what is probably the definitive list of the best ones available:

As a general tip, I'd advise you to be very careful who you kill-many NPCs who appear to be unimportant may turn out to be part of a quest later on, and you go round killing people randomly you can royally screw up the game for yourself. The game will only warn you if you kill an NPC who is vital to the
main quest.
The same goes for looting-if you come across an item that looks interesting or unique in some way, it might be best to keep ahold of it, or if you must sell it, at least make a note of who you sold it to. You might need it back later on.
Have fun!

The best advice I can give you is to follow the mainguest in the beginning:
the first time I played morrowind I didn't do that and I was necesary to start over because I lost the way and couldn't follow the story. Warning: It is a large game wich takes a lot of time and when you know it a bit after some time it is very addictive.
As first characture I should choose a Dunmer (darkelf) or a Altmer (high elf) because the high elf has a very high desease resistance.
And I should take a time to read books in the game, because there's a lot in them about the history of morrowind and some of them are good adventure story's in them.
and when you have ended the mainquest I should look for mods: I think Sword of Perithia is a very good one.
Good Luck, Stealthlord :thumb:
 Oh yeah: I should also go to Creeper it is a creature that lives in caldera in a large house full of orcs. He will buy everything of you for the full price up to 5000 gold!

So do all those mods install right into the main game? There not seperate games or anything right? Are there any that really stink and I should avoid?
