Is this a Captain Fantastic thing, like living in yurts and all that?

No love for aubergines or eggplants (I think you call them)? Round cucumbers are pretty nice.

This has not been a good year for some of our crops. I blame the smoke and the weird orange light that it creates. Seriously, it's been like having f.lux IRL. V bad for plants, I think. Eggplant, squash, chilis, and strangely enough TOMATOES (this being a crazy good climate for tomatoes) are all doing poorly.
Foraged a load of elderberries and then we made hella cordial and sauce. So taste. I was supposed to hunt SALMONS last Saturday but the wind was cray cray and the captain said Okay No This Is A Small Boat We Will Drown and so a trip 30 miles into the ocean to the Farallons was ill-advised. We would have done Halibut and Striper out the Potato Patch just past the Golden Gate, but lo the wind was fierce and the whole shebang did a cancel. Sadface. Waiting for crab to open, then I will go a-Faralloning for crab and rockcod and ling.
Dove is soon open, then duck and goose, then turkey. Back to the swamp we go, Grizzly Island (I hope I have told tales of Grizz, it is one of the only places I can go where the screaming noise in my head stops) and maybe north even if the fires haven't ruined everything. We got screwed out of two campings thanks to the fires :(
For now we are up to our titties in pigmeat, it is so nice. But fish and fowl would go well, so we wait and we prepare with shiny guns and sharp teeth. The dog is so ready for hunting again, she is bored and full of energy. Did I ever tell you about her? She is a Pudelpointer called Aspen, she looks exactly like the dog from Jim Henson's "The Storyteller" -- she is a gorgeous and smart and so so emotionally intelligent. And a born hunter. It's amazing.
Carbon and Izzy and Grace are still cats. You are not getting a grandchild, Tocky, because then we would have to acknowledge your reality and I'm not ready to do that yet you fucking weirdo
Tank has new feet on him so that the dirt and washed-out roads will be easy when the migration comes. The freezer is only half-full so far, lots of room for ducks and geese and fish and plants. Soon the oranges and the walnuts and the wait those are not even on the same season but you get the idea.
SO! HERE WE ARE AGAIN.
I'm sorry that our President is a horrible fucker, guys. It's a real jarring change from Mr Steal-yo-girl and his suave Barryness. I was gonna start a crowdfunded assassination attempt but apparently there's a list or something. But at least I got on the list, and I'm just waiting to hear back from the FBI. It's been a strange few days since I last was here.
I LOVE YOU
I WILL BE BAK SOON WITH A PROPER STORY FOR YOU ALL

I feel the past creeping back in and I feel all sticky and sweet. Welcome back.

It's good to see you again. However, I feel it might have been so long that you've developed a language I no longer understand. I'll just nod and smile, remember olden days, and silently think of the tower of Babel.

- Gee, I don't know. Any thoughts on the imminent refugee crisis due to climate change? The failures of left-wing politics that paved the road for the comeback of nationalism and racism? What's your stance on #metoo? Brexit? Intercultural adoptions? Gender construction? The insects dying? How do I serve pig loins correctly?

Kolya. Kolya never changes.
Figured you'd still be a dick, bonhomme. Nice to see I'm still right. <3
