anyway, one of the more r&b-ish genres is "UK Garage", also called "2-step". It's essentially a defunct genre now as nobody is really producing it anymore... but during its heyday (about 6 years ago), it was really banging in england and there is a lot of good music from that era to listen to.
but the subgenre dubstep is in rude health and there's a lot of people pushing for a revival of the 2-step sound without all the shit DANE BOWERS stuff, more influenced by El-B and people like that. Check out the "Burial" album that was released last year and got album of the year from The Wire magazine, now that's what i'm talkin about

Burn Out. Newly recorded. In my very own house would you believe! The mix and mastering isn't final but it's not too bad I hope. And it's not absolutely "perfect" in some places, not quite yet.

That's too bad. What happened?
I really enjoyed your record and I'm a pretty critical listener.
For others clicking over to listen to the song they have up on myspace: I feel there are several much better songs on the record than that particular selection.
You can hear more samples (and buy the record) (

Thanks for the complements and for the plug.
As to what happened, real life has a way of interfering. The bass player and I both had kids, the drummer had a drug problem, and the singer had a career in sound engineering that kept him on the road all the time with other bands.
In other words, creative differences. :)

4 brand new recordings. I don't want to hear anything about the echo/reverb on Two Birds. Today, I like it enough to keep it. Tomorrow, that may well change. Don't think of the mixes as "final". In fact, any feedback on them would be great.
All proudly recorded at home using fairly budget equipment and borrowed cymbals.

I hate to bump this in what is partly a "what, no one responded?" kind of spat, but in truth I'd like to know if the tracks actually play or not, or can be downloaded, because I've been having some trouble (as have a few others) and I wondered if it was just one of those irritatingly frequent random errors that make myspace the horrible thing it is, or whether somehow the uploads got fucked and some tracks never work right. Cheers.
Also I played with the mixes of two tracks to bring the vocal a bit more clarity.

I personally prefer the sound-world of your newer stuff. Of the Raudive Voices stuff, it sounds fairly competant, but it doesn't really "do" anything for me. I found "flicker" had the most intriguing intro and sound (even if the subsequent section reminds me a bit of the Command and Conquer soundtrack), and although it may be fairly philistinic, I do find a voice helps to take me through an unfamiliar landscape. But yeah, that one more than the others seems to "work" in my mind.
In rememberance of squishy head made me think "aha, some guitar" but I did wish it would develop into a song. It was a little bit Radioheady. It's probably my problem, but I have difficulty getting into stuff that doesn't have very much of a melody, or a voice. Or rather, it becomes background music. Which very well might be what you're going for anyway - after all, it is meant to be ambient.

So, after the aforementioned band above (simple) was in the process of disintegrating, I joined another, pre-existing band called the Mindy Set. It was your typical indie rock type band, but good in it's own way. We wrote a bunch of new music, started recording it (and that process dragged on way too long, contributing to the following) and then it disintegrated as well. The last show I played was in October and the rest of the band finally called it quits in December. In the meantime we had 8 completely tracked songs just sitting around on a computer waiting to be mixed. Last weekend, the engineer and I started mixing them. Here's one of the results for your listening pleasure:

For some reason, the conversion to mp3 sort of emphasised the shitty bass tone, but otherwise it is finished. Ultimately we'll probably release the music completely for free on the internet somewhere, since the band is no more, but we all still want people to hear it.
