I'm gonna go ahead an Merge Thrades because a "Hay guise plz hear my choons" megathread is a great idea.
And if fuckin' noid hadn't gone AWOL plus probably deleted the only known copies of certain mp3s, I might have had something to contribute. GRRRRR NOID.

Recently at our place, Shug set off an automatic-Beatles playlist using Windows Media Player and after enjoying a few tunes we were suddenly treated to one of noid's covers that WMP had hilariously confused with the real thing and we were just dying of laughter as he hacks and coughs over the top of his guitar playing.
RIP NOID :(

I don't know much about R&B, but from what I heard it sounds alright Beauty-Man. I also listened to The Debt Offensive and I must say that I really like the beginning of "Jason".
Here's the link to my band's myspace.

We pretty much just got started and only have a vocalist (me), guitarist, and drummer.
The song "Felicity" was written by me and needs more lyrics rather than lamely repeating the first verse again. This particular recording was recorded with a very old recording device (now broken) which had several of our other songs on it as well. They all needed to be recorded again anyway so this was possibly a blessing in disguise?
We haven't played any shows yet. We need more instruments. (At least a bass)
We had our first song on there (statues) but the quality was not good so we need to record it again. (We raised the key so it better matched my voice. I was having a tough time singing it.)
Any suggestions on a cheap way to record our tracks with decent quality?
It's poor season for me...

Well, I like music! I haven't actually listened to everything here, but I'm sure it's super fly :thumb:
Initially, I wanted to ask Beauty-Man if he was some sort of bot belonging to a viral advertising campaign. A search set me right.
Now, I want to say how cool it is that the thief community has its resident rapper slash mapper. I want to make some sort of pun involving the phrases "giving new meaning to" and "Comm Chat Crew"
Personally I love anything that I think is inventive and especially moving. Most of that falls into Jazz, Classical music of the early+very late 20th century, and some obscure aspects of Rock that involve memorable combinations of the other elements. I say this because I actually agree with you, and think that some aspects of early rap were really brilliant and that the genre doesn't (fully :) ) deserve the bad reputation it has among snobs like me. Frankly I find rhythm to be a tragically under-explored aspect of music. A genre that bases itself on the rhythm of the spoken word is actually extremely interesting. That's not to mention that I find there to be many (unintentionally) genius minimalistic touches that give early rap a certain drone-like, obsessive quality that I happen to like. Or at least gave, before production standards went over the top. I should say that modern RB of any sort is not my thing, so I can't help you there.
Fingernail, I'm sure you'll have success on the indie circuit (though you might say that's a poor man's success). You're very idiosyncratic. I'd say that you were punks in the original sense of the term, although I don't know too much in that realm of music. I think you're brave but still immature, (at least in regards to the kind of composition I personally favor, which is not to say that this conflicts with the "raw" sound). Anyway, I'm sure I'm not making any sense, so I'll say I thought the rain song was great.
Also, I really like your singer. He sounded very 70's bohemian British, but I couldn't figure out exactly who he reminded me of. Now, I'm of the belief that he represents what it would sound like if Peter Hammill (in the lower register) and John Lennon had a baby. A+ pipes :))
Denton, I think that, for curiosity's sake, you might want to search for a song called Kohntarkosz by a group called Magma. I say because I was extremely surprised (and giddy) to hear a very familiar rhythmic feel in your song. In fact, Magma explored that rhythm for a good 30 min, so maybe there's something to be learned...
EDIT: Shoshin!!! When your singer started out on that first phrase, I thought for a second that he was about to say "did you know that I'm a fag?" Good shit though.
Ok, I guess I misunderstood what you actually do, Beauty-Man, but there's no denying that it's more fun to make believe you're a hardcore rapper.
3763, I was apprehensive because of the dubious quality of your poetry, but, I like it a lot. On thing though: did you intentionally or unintentionally rip off Phillip Glass' trademarked lively 2-note piano bassline in your skate rap?

no i didn't intentionally rip off the bass line... i had no clue he wrote something like that! damn, i like to be original! I really like phillip glass's music, whats the song called that uses the bassline???

We can get Med to look for him...
I may have a stash of choons of his hanging about that I can upload. There should have been a bunch in Gray's ttlg music archive, but I don't think that's still active.
Apparently I have a couple of tracks to pimp myself. (
http://scumble.net/music/Almar.mp3) Almar is probably the first track I managed to get into a completed form, but I keep remixing it periodically. This last mix is a few months old. (
http://scumble.net/music/Caderal.mp3) Caderal here sort of wrote itself and I'm not entirely sure what to make of it, except that I enjoy listening to it. Incidentally 'noid provided some quality control for this one, but I don't think the change he suggested is in this mix, or this is the one I had him listen to last July. Cheese factor aside it seems to work quite well in terms of maintaining a mood.

I'm not sure what you mean lol? I can rap and sing but neither of the two I actually want to do. I'm grasping the ability produce artists songs, and albums. Also, owning my own Entertainment label....(when I say Entertainment I mean...far more then music). I do have the ability of becoming an selling artist. I would just...whether not. I am currently on the rise of the music industry. Working with different record labels as of right now. While on the other hand I have my own batch full of "on the upcoming artists". Some of which are about to be given the spot light. I create all instrumentals that you will ever hear from any artist that has any associating with "East Star E.N.T" which East Star E.N.T is also something that is on the rise. I just need to put some school in (for my damned business license ) Good money and we are straight because luckily we can be affiliated with Capitol Records, and we can be apart of other labels if not Capitol. Theres no make believe when I have the door handle to the music industry (which the key) in the palm of my hand lol. And no i'm not advertising any virus or anything lol. What I make is 100% real and I'll be damned if I did it through my own over-passion which happens to be my music.
Actually in the next 3 days I'm planning to get me a drummer, and guitarist to make some really nice tracks. I like the idea of rock and I believe I would have something combining Rock and R&B. So it's almost Rock n Blues which actually are almost the same thing. However, I saying the hip-hop balance of R&B. Mmmm...when I'm done I'm sure to let you guys hear lol. If anyone knows Timberland he can really make that happen. I'd do anything to combine with Coldplay on a song.
I'm listening to everyones projects! I'm sure I'll like them!
