it was incredibly irresponsible of peter and nathan to detonate in the sky. were they not concerned about the effects of nuclear radiation on the earth? why didn't they just let claire kill him.
That occurred to me too. The reasoning behind it, I think, is that the "exploding man" doesn't leave the radioactive fallout that you normally see with a nuclear bomb. This, now that I think about it, would be why they could have a press conference at ground zero in the alternate future we saw.
Glad to see that Sylar will live to see another day. He was, in my opinion, too good of a villain to let go of so soon. While he was a far too stereotypical 99.99% of the time, I found that "Six Months Ago" and "The Hard Part" really fleshed him out and gave the character a lot of potential. I was surprised, and relieved, to see a "comic book villain" cast more in a shade of gray, instead of the usual black and white.

How is slicing off the tops of people's heads and eating their brains a "shade of gray?"

The problems with this scenario are really ambiguous and leave a huge plot hole. The bomb that was detonated in Hiroshima was detonated at 31,000 feet over the ground with the force of 15 kilotons of TNT. That was with 600 miligrams of nuclear material. Assuming peter is 140lbs that give us an explosion of about 3175146 kilotons of TNT. That is, of course, assuming his entire mass was being converted into a bomb. That being said, Peter would blow up an area more than 211676 times that of the Hiroshima blast. Now I don't have the exact square feet damaged in Hiroshima, but having lived there for a year I can tell you that a huge area of the city was completely destroyed, and even more of it was set fire. My guess is that New York state and several surrounding states would be damaged. Peter himself would cause a nuclear winter.
Therefore, accept it as it is, TV.:thumb:

i don't think so. didn't ted's wife die of cancer or something? and when they were first hunting ted, thinking he was sylar -- parkman and the cop lady were scared to get near him because they were concerned about radiation

oye skank. i didn't even know that the hiroshima bomb was detonated 31000 ft over the ground. (i knew it was in the air, but i didn't know it was that high) ...
that's almost 6 miles up... now seeing as how nathan & peter were only in the air for about 6 seconds, nathan would have to fly a LOT faster than 6 miles per second, just to get to a distance that would even make a reasonable semblance of sense.
tim kring, you disappoint me.
and yet i will watch your crap again next season.
any speculations onto what will happen? i thought sylar died? (when it showed his own death, in his eyes)
i also think claire will make it her lifelong quest to find all of peter's gib chunks so she can piece him together so he can regen

haha, i forgot they were related.
but they're probably not anyway, peter doesn't have the wide chin like nathan and their mom. he must be adopted

I did say he was a far too stereotypical 99.99% of the time. What I am referring to is that Gabriel Gray was a simple watchmaker who desperately wanted to escape an ordinary life, no matter what the cost.

I didn't completely forgot about that either. I think we can all agree that the writing isn't consistent, or makes any real world sense. It is a show from the creator of Crossing Jordan about people with superpowers after all.

Haven't you seen Nathan's sonic boom? That means he's normally going faster than Mach 1, approximately 1,225 kilometers per hour (761 mph) at sea level.
io organic industrialism on 22/5/2007 at 18:55
i didn't know you could "see" a sonic boom.
but anyway ...
761 mph... 3600 seconds in an hour.... 3600/761 = 4.7 miles per second, which
err obviously i can't do math very well though ...

i should have said 1 mile per second.
but anyway. so let's say he was going at mach 1, 4.7 mi/sec times 6 seconds up is ... 28 miles up.
i think there would have been some nuclear fallout problems. probably even worse when it's higher up like that. the atmosphere goes many many miles up

Here, have a sonic boom.
<IMG SRC="http://www.wtv-zone.com/grandstaff/airplanes/sonicboom.jpg">
And there wouldn't be any nuclear fallout. I mean, where would the material come from, the vaporised flesh of two bodies? Given that Ted gave off no significant amount of radiation when he wasn't provoked, as indicated by the scene when he's first in custody, the radiation comes entirely from his power and not his body as such.
