Don't think about work.
That's one of those "do as I say, not as I do" things.
Or Melatonin.

You can get melatonin (in this country anyway) at almost any store that has a section for vitamins and other health pills. I find that it helps a little, but only a little.
raph, reading a book is the worst thing for me if I'm trying to sleep. It pretty much guarantees that I'll look up from the book at some point and realize that I have to get up in an hour.

(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_John's_wort) St John's Wort
Been taking it nightly for years to help fall asleep and stay asleep and get very GOOD sleep. (although its advertised as being a natural remedy for depression and other things).
PROS:
- dirt cheap
- Natural herb
- No side effects
- can pick it up in the vitamins section of any pharmacy
CONS:
- The only one I can think of is that you have to regulate the dose based on how much sleep you're going to get, otherwise you will be tired for about 20 minutes after waking up (nothing dangerous though, just wanting to go back to sleep). They come in 375mg capsules which they recommend you take 3 of per day. I take them only at night to help me go to bed and find that 1 capsul per 3 hours of sleep that I get works like a charm.
edit- I forgot to mention the most important part. Typically after taking it I'm out within 10 - 20 minutes easily, although I have been on rare occasions up for up to an hour before passing out.

Sex. Or if not, some sort of exercise to get the blood pumping in your veins at least; earlier in the day's fine too. Gives you some of the most peaceful, natural, and blissful sleep possible.

Morphine has been taking the edge off, lately.
BTW--you have to be careful with St. John's Wort if you taking an MAOI, and you also need to be very careful of too much sun exposure as it causes Photosensitivity.
