the pilgrim book said it was just inside the gate to the north-east.

you mean inside the stronghold or inside where is full of ugly creatures?
I am level 17 but i still got killed by the first I met there

I haven't been there, so I'm not positive, but I think it's just inside the entrance to the gate itself (the tall blue shimmering thing that surrounds the mountain). the entrance is at the south end of Red Mountain, west of Ald'Ruhn...you shouldn't have to fight anything too tough, you've gone too far inside the gate probably.

I can believe I didn't see it...
I spent three ours yesterday looking for it, I even entered the daedric shrine and killed something there, but nothing:)
I must have been blind or distracted....

Heh... my knight is in moral crisis right now because he had the same problem... leading to his pilgrim getting killed by an ash slave. Whoops. The shrine is inside the Ghostfence (where the nasty monsters are), but only a little ways in. About 15 yards north of the entrance, there's a fork that splits to the north and to the east. The path to the north is the obvious path - it leads to the center of Red Mountain. The path east leads to the shrine and is very hard to see in the main view. If you look on your mini-map, it's a lot easier, though. The shrine is just a short distance down that path.

to find the shrine, enter the gate (the door is between the two guard tower, push the switch on the stone in front of the gate to open the gate) when in the red mountain, follow the path north for perhaps 300 meters, then you must see the shrine on the east (the road fork north way and north east way)
i encounter only one monster (i deal with it without problem but at level 26) if you can't kill it, run to the shrine then go back in jump (with the very huge slope, in few jump you are at the gate :))
