I don't understand this line in the "Mod Ready" Set-up:
"Open up install.cfg from the shock2 folder using notepad" ?
I don't have anything called"install.cfg" in the shock2 folder. I have one called:"SHOCK.CFG" though. I tried to open it in notepad but couldn't.I don't understand the procedure here.Thanks.

You need to have a file called install.cfg in there, otherwise the game ain't gonna run. :erm:
Did you install the game manually by any chance?

Wait a minute I do have it. Sorry. I have a CD-Rom in good shape. This was a purchase.
I don't understand the Notepad instruction line. Thanks.

First of all, Windows Notepad is not exactly a good tool for doing anything. I'd recommend you use (
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) Notepad++ instead.
In either case, open the file in the editor in whichever way you like. I can't remember if .cfg files are associated with Notepad to begin with (I think they might be) - if not, right-clicking on the file and selecting 'open with' and choosing Notepad++ (or Windows Notepad) is one method.
Find the line with the line 'resname_base'.
It should read something like:
resname_base C:\Games\System Shock 2\
and you want to change it to read:
resname_base C:\Games\System Shock 2\Res
Or, better still, change it to a relative path:
resname_base .\Res
If there's a + on your line, leave everything after the first + alone. If you have made a full install, then you don't need to include the + section at all, since that's just telling the game to look on the CD if it can't find the resources.

I have always used the standard Notepad for config file editing and had no issues there. But if you want to go through with Notepad++ as NV suggested, then I see nothing wrong with that.
But yes, to open a CFG file with any text editing program, you just need to right click on the file, which in this case is install.cfg, choose the Open With option, and select a program of your choice from the list that appears, which is either Notepad or Notepad++ depending on your preference.

Random Windows tip:
Open your Send To folder (Go to Start->Run and type "SendTo") and create a shortcut to Notepad++ (or Notepad) in there.
From then on, you can right-click on any file and press 'n' twice to open the file in Notepad (First 'n' for 'Send To', second 'n' for Notepad).
You might also want to delete some of the other junk in there.

It doesn't work. I get a message that says: it can't open this file ?

You should see in the same window a question of "What do you want to do?" and below that two options. Choose the lower option, the one that says "Select the program from a list" and click Ok.
Please let me know if you are getting a different window than I described, I'm writing this stuff from memory. :p

What is going on here ? With the with prior post ? It didn't record my answer ?
Any way, When I right click and try to open the file in Notepad, I get a message that says: it can't open the file ?

Weird. You can try rename install.cfg, to install.txt.
But first you need to unflag 'Hide extensions for known filetypes', otherwise you'll just get a install.txt.cfg.
