Alright, I got SS2 to run, and I got the sound to play, I even got it to run at a fairly normal speed with Vsync. Now I have 2 problems. One, my cutscenes will not play. This may be because I am running it at 1024 768, since I know that videos play at 640 400, but how can I fix this and perhaps keep my resolution? I tried the regsvr32 thing, but all i get is "regsvr32 cannot be found". And its probably best to just pretend I lost my cd, since I can't do the Iv5play.exe.
My second problem is i get these strange static like bars going horizontally across my screen. How do I remove them? It's usually a triple buffering problem in games that this occurs, but I don't think I have that option here.
Any help is appreciated, Thx in advance, and probably later too if anyone knows how to fix this.

:( great, now I just found out that I can't install the patch either! All I get is "Cannot determine installation directory". Anybody know how to help with these problems???

That problem is linked to your pretending you lost the cd. It would seem the game doesn't believe you.
Anyway, did you check wether you need the patch at all?
Rightclick the shock2.exe and choose "Properties -> Version -> Productversion". If the productversion is 2.23 the game is patched already.
The videos should play fine at 1024, it's a normal game resolution after all. And Indeo Codecs can be found all over the web. Search.

k, that fixes the video problem, the cutscenes seem to working now. Sadly, the version is a basic as it gets, version 1.0.0.0. And I'm still getting those horizontal bars near the top of my screen. If my initial description didnt help, I can also say these bars see through or past certain textures, like windows or the chinese sign in the beginning area. I suppose I can live without the patch if there is no way to install it, but those bars are way too distracting.

what are your system specs?

Laptop, Dell inspiron 9300
Geforce Go 6800
2gig of ram
90gig hard drive
1.86 ghz processor
not sure what else you want to know.
Oh and I just realized I DEFINITELY can't play with these bars, because they make the bottom of my UI disappear, so I can't see health, psi, or change psi skills or whatever else. It also cuts the hacking screen in half, and removes the cross hair and the borders that appear around an item when you are over it.

nevermind, I fixed the bars, it was the Vsync that was causing it(I figured that out when I tried to start guild wars, and got those same bars). however the game started running too fast then, so I set Antialiasing to max. Now the game just runs a little bit fast, but nothing I can't handle. Actually it may be better, since walking around won't take as long and I can fire a gun faster. So, its seems like everything is working fine. Now if only I could get that patch to work....
