Ugh. I always get this error if I've just been doing some modding and leave the CS open. Make sure you've completely closed the construction set before running the game.

well i never use that set cuz i dont even know how to use it so somthing else is causing it

You could try downloading and using the latest Detinator Drivers - or atleast check to see if there is an updated version for your card.

i have directX 8.1 and ive played this game on my comp.......before i reformated my HD
and my operating system is windows 98 SE

Sounds like the video card drivers wern't correctly reloaded, or you had updated one's that were removed during the format.
This isn't the same a Direct X. You might be able to get an updated version of the drivers (or the Detinator ones) here:
