I kinda when into the Sanctus shrine, the one where Saryoni wrote his sermons, and looked in the ancient chest. I wanted to read his manuscript, so...plucked it out of there, dropped it on my guy, and read a little. Afterwards I quietly put it back in the chest, but when I closed, the caretaker attacked me and now I have a bounty of 50k on my head. Wonderful.

Hrm... at what point is stealing from a holy shrine not considered a Bad Thing to do in front of its caretaker?
Red on 4/9/2002 at 21:01
Hmmm... 50K bounty just for stealing... come on you must have done a lot more than that?
Quinlan_Vos on 4/9/2002 at 21:49
Forsythe: I wasn't attempting to steal the Manuscript in the first place, only read it. I tried to put it back in its rightful chest, but it registered it as I had stolen it obviously.
Red: If you didn't know, if you are caught when stealing something, your bounty takes on the worth of the item that you stole. In this case, Saryoni's Manuscript is worth 50k.
Does anyone have any solutions at all to this little problem?

Ahhh, yeah, I did something like that once w/ Yagrum Bagarn's books... luckily I saved beforehand though. As to clearing this up, and assuming you don't have an old save you can restore, you'd best have at least 25,000 gold and hoof it to the nearest Thieves' Guild to pay off your bounty.
Quinlan_Vos on 4/9/2002 at 21:58
Yes, I was thinking of that solution myself. The only problem is, I am not a member of the Thieve's Guild. And they will not let me be a member, I think I don't have the requirements.

Hmm.. well, assuming that you haven't killed any members (if you have, they may not let you join) then you just need to locate the applicable trainers and train up enough so that you can, no? (that, or cheat if on a PC)

hmmmm......if you do manage to get into the thieves guild, you can get that bounty taken off for free, because a bug in the game lets the balmora thieves guild guy take off your bounty no matter how much money you have. If you dont have enough, then he takes what you do have, so drop all your cash before getting it removed. Or you could of course cheat......but since im on xbox i have to exploit bugs in the game:ebil:

For that matter, Larrius Varro (in the fort just outside Balmora) clears your name for free if you do his 'bloodbath' quest for him.
MaxSkills on 5/9/2002 at 20:01
Cool, i didnt know that. I thought he would just give me the ring and I would never see him again in the game. heh
