Your issue happened to me once, when I installed Heroes of Might and Magic IV, a long long time ago. I dont recall how I fixed it, but it was a very minor issue/resolve. Good luck. Not to be rude, but this thread deserves a big fat CLOSE. First of all, where's the manners? Assuming you install Thief for the first time, then you're also a new member of this community. Introduce yourself, tell us what you can or can't do with a PC, then we'll help. Most people put ignorance and "ah, it'll do" in front of everything else. They rely on anonymity, that being a decisive factor for them.
If InstallShield hangs at 99%, restart your computer. That's a common buffer overflow for older versions. When you get back to Windows, FIRST thing you do is run the setup again. This time it will work.
Anyway, I am 100% sure he won't even reply. Awaiting to be proven wrong :)
