Hi , im new here but having problem with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
installed game fine ok done, but when i go to play thats where the problem starts, the creator videos flash through ok then all i get is a black screen with an arrow featuring a rotating radioactive symbol, just wondering if anybody has had the same problem and knows how to fix, any help would be appreciated.

AMD smpron 3000+ 64 bit
1024mb RAM
Radeon 9250 128mb
is that enough or do you need more?

The Radeon 9250 might be the reason why the game isn't working for you. Even if you'd get it to run the performance would be nothing to drop your jaw over.
Another tip; update your video drivers if you haven't already. (assuming the latest Catalysts still support such an old card)

did you even get to the options/menue screen ?
what video-drivers do you have installed.
my installation runs fine AS LONG as i do not untick the 60Hz option because then my screen goes black although the game still runs. try searching in your user.ltx (in the stalker-savegames-folders) for the option
rs_refresh_60hz on
should be on or try it with off
apart from that if you didn't even get to the menue try deleting that user.ltx file, because then it will be created anew and all option are default, e.g. static lightning

Static lighting and dynamic ain't gonna make a difference until in-game, so I'm guessing something else is causing this than video settings set too high.
Video drivers info plz.

Actually, they do make a difference on the title screen - I absolutely notice sluggish responsiveness, worse on the title screen then in many game areas.

That's weird, isn't the title screen just a GUI with a background image?

i can run the game @1024x768 HDR on medium and Texture on high
BUT WHEN
i untick the 60Hz Frequency in the Advanced Options or just switch them from on to off in my user.ltx I get an black screen when starting STALKER but the game itself is running, can hear music, click around but can't see what I'm doing....so i have to keep it on 60 although FRAPS shows sometimes Frames>60.

Maybe your monitor is a little nuts? It doesn't hurt to install drivers for your brand, newer video drivers might also do the trick.
