im deep into ponterbee station (excellent mod christine, if by some crazy chance ur reading this), and at one point on deck 6 im jumping in midair to shoot at a projection of shodan, and a cyborg assassin blindsides me and kills me. the problem is, i saved the game about .3 seconds before he kills me, so when i load up, im dead immediately. theres no quantum bioreconstruction machines on that level, and if there is then i havent touched it, so i get dumped back at the main menu. i really dont want to start this all over again, especially considering im playing this on impossible. i wouldnt mind doing it again, but i want to enjoy it, and doing it again would just be a pain in the ass.
i found a link that said that if i add a line to the "user.cfg" file that reads, without quotes, "undead", then i should be invincible. but im running on version 2.23 and this file doesnt seem to exist!
can someone help? or am i doomed to start all over again?

Create the file. It's just a text file. Add that line.

apparently, when i tried to pull off a miracle and get out of that snag by ducking/healing, i saved it again after i was killed. so when i load, im already dead. anything i can do? or am i really screwed now?

It's probably possible to edit the save game in ShockEd. I don't know how and it's probably not worth the effort.

Surely you had saved on a different slot at some point?
Did you try the autosave from when you entered the level?
As far as I know, it isn't possible to load saved games into the System Shock 2 version of DromEd (the commands that you can use to do this in Thief are missing), but you could modify the gamesys to temporarily make your character invulnerable, load the game, avoid the damage, save, and then restore a backup of the correct gamesys.

naw i never used any of the savegame slots. autosave all the way. hey its more convenient and i dont have to interrupt the tension of the game to save my progress.
but i guess now im screwed huh?

You can edit the save game.
Start ShockEd -> go in game (the default room is fine) -> Esc -> Load Game -> Alt + E -> Make Edits -> Alt + G -> Esc -> Save Game -> Quit ShockEd

Reason to not just rely on autosave. And I think you're screwed anyway. :p
