I got lucky enough to find this game today at a local EB for only 3 dollars, and happily bought it, wanting to try out another Looking Glass great.
Well, it won't run at all under Windows 98 (just a black screen then back to desktop, even with the game told to ignore Windows) so I made up a boot disk.
No luck THERE, either. First for some reaosn DOS memory manager loads twice. Then the CD spins for about a minute. Finally the message apears that the game "Failed to allocate memory into 0 bytes" on the screen.
I've tried it with both EMS and XMS memory, as I'm not sure what it needs and how much free conventional, and still no luck.
How do I get this to run?
Thanks, Greg

If you have a 3DFX card, you need the program vesafix to force compatibility. If you want, I can email it to you. I don't remember where it is online. It's not on the TTLG Terra Nova page for some reason.

Yes, I do have a Voodoo 3, and if you can tell me where to find it at, that's great. If not, then please do mail it to me at gpolander@hotmail.com if it's not that big.

The down side to the (otherwise wonderful) new forums is that the old thread ids don't map to the new ones, and I haven't recompiled that help thread :/
Let us know if the vesafix tsr solves your problems -- generally we can get the game running under Win98 without much difficulty!

No, I'm afraid it did'nt make any difference. I ran the vesafix before the game, and I STILL get the 'failed to allocate memory into ' ' bytes', but the number changes. Does'nt matter if I'm in Windows 98 or DOS, does'nt matter which file.
Also, if it helps, for some reason, DOS/4GW is loading TWICE when the game tries to start up. Why is that? It does it even with music and sound turned off.
Any other ideas? :)

Still can't understand why that Vesa Fix program doesn't help. I tried it again without switching to DOS mode. It worked. Somehow.
