Hi,
I downloaded all the main mods and missions for SS2. I decided to play the short single-level ones first, before moving onto the ones by Christine. The first few were fine (the dojo level you can look around; and brokenspeedrun.zip). They just replaced earth.mis with their own versions, so I loaded the game and just started a new game.
However, some of the mods/levels have a .mis file with a name other than earth.mis, and no explanation of how to play it. Even when I activate the mod in ModManager, I still just get to the normal SS2 screen - and choosing a new game just takes me to the Earth recruitment centre. There seems to be no option ingame to choose the fan level.
I tried renaming the mods as earth.mis, which then let me play them when I selected a new game, but they then seemed a bit buggy, and someone said renaming them was a bad idea.
So have I overlooked something obvious to play single levels that aren't called earth.mis?
Also has anyone played the FM mod? As soon as I kill the rumbler at the start the game crashes, has anyone got past that bit?
Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you're referring to Christine's FM "Ponterbee Station", it begins on earth with normal training. The actual FM content starts with the career selection.

Have you tried to see what happens when you rename the file to "earth.mis"?

I tried that (renaming as earth.mis) with the mission1 download from that page - speedmap1.zip. It then loads when I start a new game, but with no HUD. I can pick up weapons but not select them or use them, or manipulate my inventory. Basically it is like when you first appear on Earth at the start of a new game - no HUD, and the inventory button does nothing. That is why I thought there must be another way to run the mission - if it needed a certain name, surely it would already have been given that name?
I just assumed some other shockers would have tried out these mods, or point out something obvious I overlooked. I'm sure they wouldn't have been put in the Vault unless they worked?

Oh right, I had forgotten... I just tracked my original speedmap contest thread and remembered my speedmaps can only be played properly with ShockEd, as the marker that activates the HUD wasn't inserted during construction.
Actually all the FMs at freylia (included those labelled "completed") should probably be better played with ShockEd, since most of them are incomplete. (Open the file in ShockEd then Alt+G)

Not quite. They're available as kind of "demos" of the early ages of the SS2 FM scene, so to speak, and are not guaranteed to work. The levels may be complete, but not necessarily the FM, if you see what I mean. (Using ShockEd, you should have no problem though)
RttUNN and Arboretum are the only *guaranteed* finished FMs on the site.

Okay, I got the missions running last night. I followed the advice and used ShockEd, loaded the speedmap file, then Alt-G to play. They all worked, though the screen was very bright (there seemed to be no shadows), and at one point hybrids started making the sound effects of a maintenance bot, which was a bit freaky; and turrets seemed to kill me in one hit.
The UT FM had nothing to do but look round a shuttle, like the dojo level. The three speedmaps were okay for a quick blast. The 'FM' level worked better through ShockEd (e.g. the lift went up this time) - but it still crashed if the rumbler died. However I just avoided killing him, and seemed to see everything else in the level.
The secret monkey army that joined me when I fed them were a fun surprise.
Ancient was a bit longer, and fun as the short mindless blast it was created for.
That was enough FMs for a while, I'll work my way up to the biggies another time.

If you're using the ShockEd Toolkit that Kolya linked to, it defaults to disabled lighting (it's easier to edit the maps that way).
You need to hit Ctrl+Shift+O and Ctrl+O to enable lighting again (the first toggles terrain lighting, the second, objet lighting).

Here my time on these forums shows as I know the answer to this one. The FM mod is meant to be played via dromed/shocked not ss2 proper.
