Hi guys, I know that probably this isn't the proper place to post this, but I know many of you and hope to get some help.
My infortunate decision to uninstall T2 and TG is giving me problems, big problems. I enclose the screenshots so you may get the idea.
First I uninstalled TG and when I try to install it I get an error msg due to DirectX problems and my Win NT OS. But I have Win 10 and the game was correctly installed until 10 minutes ago....
When I try to uninstal T2 I get another error msg referring to the lack of a file.....
I'm going crazy, I don't want to quit playing,
Pls give me hope.....
I enclose 2 pics of the error msgs and another one of my Operative system. Hope someone can lend me a hand.....

For thief gold it is a known issue with win 10 and it can be resolved using TFix. If I remember correctly there is a dedicated thread for it. try searching "installing thief gold on win 10".
As far as uninstalling thief 2, probably there is a corrupt or missing folder in your current installation. I would delete the whole thief 2 file and reinstall to a new location, preferably anywhere but program files.

If lglass.u is missing from your Thief2 folder, I would just install Thief2 into a new folder. Mine is C:\Thief2 to make it easier to locate. It would be trivial to leave the old installation of Thief 2 in the old location and just not use it. I don't know if Thief2 puts entries into the Windows registry & if deleting the old folder would cause any issues.

John, I put my Thief installations in C\Games, and with T2 the problem is that I cannot uninstall due to the lack of that file. I don't think that just deleting the T2 folder can do the trick, but if necessary.........
Kin, thank you for your reply, concerning T1, I got this reply from AI: To install
Thief Gold on Windows 10, first, run the installer or copy the game files from the discs to your hard drive in a non-protected folder like C:\Games. Next, download and install the TFix patch to ensure compatibility with the modern operating system. Finally, follow the TFix instructions for initial setup, and you can optionally install OpenAL for hardware-accelerated audio

Thief1 and 2 are portable games.
I don´t have them installedthrough steam though.
The last time I installed Thief was 20 years ago.
You can have a thousand copies of Thief if you want to.

Marissa I was suggesting not deleting the folder but just make a new installation into a different folder. :)

As I already uninstalled TG, today I will try to install in a new folder, copying all the cd's files and adding Tfix in order to be able (I hope) to insall it: will Create a "Thief series" folder and create a "TG original cd" where I will copy all the cd'a contents and add the TFix patch, and start from there.
If I am successful, I will try to install T2 to the new folder, and once it's set up, I will manually delete the folder it's installed now. I know it's the wrong way, but I cannot find anoter way.....
Maybe if someone can send me the Iglass.u file and tell me where to place it inside the T2 folder, I will be able to uninstall properly.
Then I have 2 copies of T3, not original, which at the moment is not installed on my pc........but let's solve the first two problems as a beginning!
I'm really feeling very anxious about all this stuff that's going on, I think it's just part of getting older, lol!

"lglass.u" is a file that contains uninstaller information. It tells Windows what files to remove when uninstalling. It's not where windows is expecting it to be. I'm guessing you deleted it, you changed the name of your Thief2 directory, or you moved it. Reinstalling would update where windows thinks it is.
The install error about Windows NT and DirectX can be fixed/bypassed by running setup.exe from the thief CD with the (
https://ia903108.us.archive.org/view_archive.php?archive=/2/items/neilstuff/2016-02-neilstuff-weebly.iso&file=install-thief-on-2000xp.html) -lgntforce switch. This forces the installer to continue, despite detecting a version of Windows NT.
You'd still need to install the (
https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141148) Newdark patch in order for Thief Gold and Thief2 to run properly. There are automatic installers that do everything automatically for you. Or you could install it manually with a little reading and tweaking.

Concerning TG, shall I create a subfolder called CD1 and CD2, or put all the files in the same folder?
maga on 1/11/2025 at 09:03
Antimatter, thank you but I quite don't understand the -Igntforce switch.....
I went to the google drive to download TFix but I can see the single files, not a zipped one...... and I don't understand how to save them from there......
Real dumbiness here............
