Long story short - the editors at Wikipedia refuse to believe that SS2's Von Braun was named after the rocket scientist Von Braun unless I cite something. So, if someone could write such a line here in this thread, I can use it to cite the source. It's either that, or use one of those "This information was taken from Wikipedia" wikis.
Sometimes I love Wikipedia. Sometimes, I really don't. Fucking 'tards.

I'm glad I never take Wikipedia too seriously. God, what a bunch of crazies.
EDIT: oh nevermind, I've just read the Talk Page for 'Derek Smart'. Wikipedia is actually comedy gold.

Just email Ken Levine at Irrational, outline the problem, and ask him to reply with a definitive answer so that you can wave it at the Wikipeople. And if they don't accept
that they aren't going to accept anything... how much more of a citation can you get than personal confirmation from Ken Levine?
Hint: none more
so, is anyone going to do that? :)
do we know how to contact him?

I can imagine Ken Levine idling in his office right now, hoping for his chance to confirm in legal terms that green is in fact green.
And I bet he'd love to provide us with a list of all his web-nicks as well, so we might release it on Wikipedia and consequently cite all his posts.

Instead of saying definitively "the Von Braun is named after the pioneering rocket scientist of the same name", why not just say it is believed (by everyone) that it's named after him? That way it gets the point across, and it wouldn't necessarily need a rock-solid source.
..or would it?:weird:

"It is believed" is a weasel-word that does nothing to make the supposition any more credible.
But anyway, the reason why people think it's a reference to Werner Von Braun (in the absence of a testimonial from the developers saying so) is not an appeal to popularity of belief but to probability. "It is probable, for such-and-such reasons, that the name is a reference to..." stands on firmer footing.

Provide a transcript of the game's intro video narration where it's stated?

It's not mentioned anywhere in the introduction. Nor is there any mention of Werner von Braun or Eddie Rickenbacker in the game's string files as far as I can find.

How many notable Von Braun's could there be in history to confuse this ship with anyway? Fame and applicability have got to count for something...you'd think.

Unfortunately, that wouldn't be good enough. Anything cited as fact on Wikipedia must be published somewhere else first (No Original Research), and self-publishing doesn't count.
