I set it to 640*480 cos i don't know what resolution you use for the game but that should allow you to load it, change the resolution and then save again.
Just put it in the "data" directory".
If you can show me how it's done, that would be great ;)

I've just managed to do it with that savegame. I'm not sure if it's possible to do it without going back into cyberspace at least once - and although I did it once in two shots it took me three times when I tried it again.
My preferred strategy is to drop "down" as soon as you enter that room and then align towards the ice as slowly as possible firing as quickly as you can (I've always found using enter to fire is much faster than the right mouse button). If you get too close and some of its shots are getting through then scoot away back in the direction of the entrance and repeat until the time limit is up.

Okay i managed to do it once but i'm not sure how and i'm not sure why it wouldn't work the other times.
Maybe part of the problem is i don't know when exactly i'm "hitting" it. SS1 has hit detection awkwardness when things are marginal and also i don't know whether shooting the blue surrounding ice defences count or whether it's only the actual pulser upgrade that it's defending.
