I bought the STEAM version and whatever I try, this is what the menu screen looks like...
Inline Image:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/2in7l.jpgI patched it to version 1.1 and it still looks like that.
I changed the options.ini resolution from 2, to -1, and it still looks like that.
Any ideas?
I'm an XP user, and the retail physical copy of Thief: Deadly Shadows I owned (I lost it), used to work perfectly straight after install! Why is this STEAM version so crappy?

I don't know what to do about it, but maybe your computer has been taken over by that puppy at the center of the screen.:p
Sorry, I hope someone will be able to help you fix the problem.

:(:(:(
I can hear sound perfectly, it's just the graphics are completely messed up.
Also just tried John P's texture pack, in hopes of sorting out the mess but it still looks the same...
Somebody please :(

Get the GoG.com version and see how that fares.

Or the GOG version, which actually exists.

The Steam version is already 1.1.

The only difference between the original European retail version and the Steam version is the 1.1 patch (which only updates the main game exe), a Steam-ified T3.exe (the game launcher) and some fixes in the non-English texts that are
not in the Steam version... The GOG version is basically the same as the Steam version except for the T3.exe file.
You can try letting Steam update the cached files for the game, then copy in (
http://darkfate.org/view/files/fan-missions/needful_stuff/t3main.exe_and_t3.exe.7z) these files, which come from the editor pack for the game (unpack to the game root which is something like C:\Program Files\steam\steamapps\common\Thief Deadly Shadows). That will give you the newest version of the main game executable and a non-Steam T3.exe, which is the same as the one that comes with the GOG version of the game...
That probably won't fix it though. Since it's a graphics issue maybe updating/reinstalling your graphics driver and (
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=34429) DirectX 9 is a better bet?

The (

Given that $9.99US comes out to about £6.38 -- i.e. within the range you described -- that's not really a good point to make. Especially when you factor in shipping costs.
