OK i know this sound stupid but i can't enchant my glass longsword every time i take it to an enchanter i do everything put the soul gem in, the weapon, how it will cast BUT the effects don't show up and i can't scroll down to pick one (if that's how you do it) someone tell me how, also does which kind of soul gem matter because i am using a grand soul gem  :wot:

You need to know the spell yourself before you can enchant anything. So go around mages and learn spells of them.

so just talk to mages about spells and it will let me?! OK

No, you actually have to buy spells. Then their effects will be added to your own repertoire. The name of the effect appears as a pop-up when you run the cursor over the spell. You only need to buy, for example, one fire damage spell to have 'fire damage' in your list of effects available for enchanting AND spellmaking.
Save before you enchant; if you fail (which happens to me with monotonous regularity) your soul gem is lost.
