I just started playing this FM on easy, and I'm afraid I'm stuck already. :(
I got the key from the guards belt for the Broken Arts building and have gone inside. I went down the stairs and there is another door. The key doesn't work on it, nor can I pick it. So what do I do? I ran all over the map and don't see any other way to proceed. I'm stuck. How do I proceed?

Check the back of the stairs.

Slowly look all around the room.
There should be a button on the back of the staircase.
There's a kind of indentation in the wall that goes all around the room (sort of the opposite of a low chair rail). I sidled all around the room looking at that indentation in case the key was there.

Ok, so I found the button and got the door opened. I went inside and read the note, and now I'm stuck again. I don't get it. What's that note supposed to mean? What magic painting? One of the paintings upstairs can only be seen at a certain angle, but I was attributing that to my video card. I'm just not getting the idea here. Can someone please clue me in to what I'm supposed to be doing?

There wasn't a lot to do in the art gallery - just find out how to open that door, go through and steal the little bit that's there. Now you need to continue down the walkway. You should find a locked gate with a patrol guard (he walks back and forth on the path, moving away from and toward the gate - I hope that makes sense). You need to get through that gate.
Basically, you need to keep moving on down the path (there are a couple obstacles), and check out any side areas you find. After you've gotten to the very end, you should be able to figure out what you still need to do.
I don't want to tell you any more than that because I'd hate to spoil anything for you. I often read other people's requests for help and find out too much - then I lose the enjoyment of exploring and figuring everything out for myself.

Hey Bad_Demographic
I had already been further down the path before I made the last post, but I just went down again. I really don't see what to do? The only thing frobbable is the metal gate with the guard on the other side, and it doesn't open. I even got the guard all excited thinking maybe he'd open it, but no go. :(
I see the sewer hatch, but I don't see anyway of opening it?
So don't worry about spoiling anything for me. Tell me what to do next. As I said in another post, I don't have the time or the patience for playing missions that I can't see what has to be done next, within a reasonable amount of time.

You can pick open the gate down at the end of the street. You're probably just standing a bit too far away from it.
