Hi everyone,
I've been a Thief fan since it was released in 1998 and it's always been in my top five best ever games, probably even the top 2. I'm currently trying to get it to work on my newish PC and although I've done a fair amount of reading, unfortunately I can't seem to find a solution to my specific issue.
My Thief copy from CD is version 1.14 and when I try and install it on my XP system it comes up with a warning at 69% saying "Could not copy E:\thief\MOTIONS.CRF to....*installation destination*.
Can anyone help? I'm aware of the other issues regarding patching the game, but I need to be able to install it first!!
Thanks a lot, and on a side note, I'm so happy that the Thief legacy has been maintained by ttlg forums etc...the game really deserves it!

Not sure, but have you checked for filth or deep scratches? When I have trouble installing a game, it's usually cause the disc is damaged or my reader has a malfunction...
Or, you could try to run the installation setup in compability mode?:erg:

That definitely sounds like the Cd may be damaged.
If you haven't tried this already, hold the disc up to a light source and see if any light shines through from the data side. If it does, you can find really cheap copies of thief on ebay anyways. :thumb:

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I tried to run T1 setup in windows 98 comp mode first, but it still stopped at 69% whilst trying to copy the motions.crf file. Setup continued successfully after being unable to copy this file.
Before I go and buy myself another copy of thief 1, has anyone got a copy of this motions.crf file (1.14 version) they can possibly upload for me? Would save a lot of hassle...and just want to play this classic again! Thanks!

I think even a later version of the motions.crf file will do fine. I compared the contents of my motions.crf file from
Thief Gold to the contents of the same file from the very first
Thief Demo (Bafford's). There were a few additional files inside
Thief Gold's motion.crf, but everything else was the same.
I believe you could just take motions.crf from any
Thief version 1.14 or later and burn a new copy of your CD 1 with the new motions.crf on it in order to be able to play
Thief again - unless you already found a version 1.14 CRF file.
Considering how large it is, maybe even the motions.crf from the
Thief: Assassins demo would do the trick.
